The Lecture Phase

Know God: three months of teaching and discipleship to develop and strengthen your relationship with God

The Young People's Discipleship Training School begins with three months of lecture phase. The focus of this time is on personal application of truth and response to the character of God.

Throughout the week, you are actively learning and encountering God through school and base activities. Your week will include worship times, prayer times, small group, personal discipleship, as well as sports, community outreach and many adventures in the city.

What you'll experience during the lecture phase.

Energy: 17-25 year olds

January is summertime in Perth, so we incorporate many beach and camping activities into the YPDTS Lecture Phase. Life on the YWAM Perth base at this time is highly interactive with many other schools running alongside the YP, providing for a huge range of friendships and learning opportunities. The YPDTS is typically a high energy, active school full of young people from all over the world.

Discipleship

We're really serious about providing you with on-going discipleship and support. This happens through one-on-one mentorship where you will regularly meet with a staff member to process all the information and experiences coming your way. There are many opportunities provided to actively respond to God's word and teaching, both in small groups and the classroom.

Worship and Prayer Stream: Intensity

We have regular worship and prayer times to encounter God and actively respond to His character. These times are key to growing in your understanding of who God is. It's passionate, intense and it will change your view of God and how He works in and through you. The YPDTS also offers a worship and prayer elective 'stream' that provides further teaching and opportunities in these areas.

Outreach Phase

Make God Known: three months of actively bringing the love of God to the nations.

Outreach Phase is when we put into action everything we have learned during the lecture phase. The heart of outreach is to effectively communicate the love of God to the people we encounter. We do this through a whole variety of ministry opportunities. Ministry varies according to location but the bottom line is evangelism and discipleship. You will be sharing Jesus with people you meet through a variety of activities. These activities could include youth ministry, evangelism both one-on-one and in large gatherings, and practical service. Teams are often partnered with long-term YWAM, or local church ministries or contacts in outreach locations.

Outreaches are led by YPDTS staff who also maintain personal discipleship and input for you to continue to grow in your relationship with God and life direction.

Mission experiences during the outreach phase.

Youth Ministry

YPDTS outreaches regularly involve focused youth ministry. Teams often teach seminars in high schools on issues relevant to young people. We also just get out and engage with young people on the streets and in communities. Overall, a large part of our ministry time is directed towards presenting Jesus to 13-25 year olds.

Unreached

Our outreaches typically include epic trips to bring Jesus to the most unreached. Teams have trekked to remote jungle and mountain villages, as well as worked amongst communities in large urban centres. Sharing Jesus with people whilst having an incredible adventure is what outreach is all about!

Diversity

YPDTS outreaches do it all! Evangelism, discipleship, practical work, children's ministry, media, sports, drama and dance, teaching English, art, preaching and teaching in churches, prison ministry, working with at risk youth and women, prayer and worship and construction!
