Students will gain an overall understanding of the Bible as they study it chronologically with a focus on personal and societal application. While learning tools to interactively study the Bible, students will understand it in the context of its history, culture and literary styles. Skills will be developed to appropriately approach and study difficult passages as well as how to prepare and deliver topical, textual and inspirational messages from the Bible. Additionally, there is an emphasis on “storying” and “orality” as they construct a resourceful biblical timeline of key events and people in the Bible.
Meditation on and memorisation of Bible scripture has a powerful transforming and edifying impact on the mind, body, and soul. A weekly segment of the 16-week lecture phase will be devoted to planting large portions of scripture in your mind and heart. This will be done through memorisation of stories by recreating the events of the story in your mind and enabling you to memorise and then present these stories from a first-hand point of view.
The BSN Resource Library is fully stocked with all the essentials to assist you while studying the historical and literary context of the Bible. Resources include concordances, Bible dictionaries, and encyclopedias, various Bible translations, biographies, and Bible atlases. Bible software by Logos and PC Study Bible available for use.
YWAM International is continually pushing the frontiers of innovative and strategic Bible engagement and application. YWAM Perth recently hosted one of seven events that serve as part of the contribution and editorial process for the new SphereView Bible. We are currently using and contributing to the SourceView and SphereView Bible being developed by David Hamilton. During the school, you will be part of this advancement by utilising the newest ideas available including the ease of digital resources.
During the two-month outreach, you will help facilitation of a BELT Seminar (Biblical Education and Leadership Training) for 2-3 weeks. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to teach, train, and work closely with pastors and community leaders from various denominations and locations. As an essential part of outreach, you will engage in regular prayer, intercession, worship, evangelism and address other needs of the community.
Many of the current BSN and BELT initiatives in the nations were born out of YWAM Perth. As a result, you will have the privilege of partnering with long-term and strategic vision and initiatives to see the Bible transform the nations of southeast Asia and East Africa. There is much to learn as you work with experienced international and local missionaries in the field.
With great need in the West as well as developing nations, the BSN Perth outreach gives you the unique opportunity to partner with God in the West by ministering in Western Australia in addition to your international experience.
Although BELT was begun by reaching and training leaders in developing nations, there are many cities where church leaders do not have access to solid biblical training. YWAM Perth is committed to reaching cities and the BSN and BELT outreach will go to the cities that the Megacities ministry is focusing on. In 2014 we will be sending teams to Kolkata, India for a portion of the outreach to assist and disciple the church and community leaders.
