He Gives Beauty for Ashes
When we were in the Ukraine we met with a woman who told us how she had been trafficked into the sex industry. She shared with us that when growing up she longed for affection from men because she never found acceptance from her father. She married young and had a child. Her husband was a drunk and couldn’t hold down a job. She became desperate for money for herself and her child, forcing her to take a job in Hungary as a dancer, which became a stripping job. As she continued to work, paths crossed with the wrong people. In the end that’s how she was trafficked into prostitution. She shared about the numbness that took over and the acceptance that this was her life. Thankfully, through circumstances she was able to escape and return home to her child.
God truly is the only one who fully rescues and restores.
It was hard to believe that this woman in front of me had such a horrific story, for she had so much joy and life in her eyes. I saw how God truly is the only one who fully rescues and restores. God has given her new life and washed away the filth that clung to her. She was radiant from God’s love and his salvation. She now brings awareness to Human Trafficking by telling her story and prevention. She goes into orphanages and teaches girls how to cut hair and shares how not to be trafficked. It’s astonishing to see Gods grace transform a person’s life regardless of whatever past darkness they have gone through. He gives beauty for ashes!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17
