Jesus looked at the crowds and had compassion for them (Matthew 15:32). He healed, helped, served and loved. As we pursue Him together, the Compassion DTS aims to go deep in understanding His compassion, and then share Him in word and in action with those who are vulnerable and hurting.
You will receive focused discipleship over 12 weeks of teaching, small groups, inner-city ministry, fun and relationship in YWAM Perth’s international missions community. Together we’ll look at God’s Fatherheart, hearing His voice, missions, evangelism, worship and more. We’ll learn from experienced missions leaders who live what they teach — all this while going deeper in intimacy with Jesus, learning to know Him and His purpose for our lives. You will also have the opportunity to do workshops on topics such as water filtration and primary health care designed to equip you to meet the needs of the poor.
We long to see communities and individuals realise their full, God-given potential. Despite injustice and brokenness, no situation is beyond His hope. With this as our heartbeat, the second half of the Compassion DTS is where we take what we’ve learned to those in need in the nations. We go to slums, to children at risk, the homeless, the abandoned - the lost. Whether in an orphanage, a prison, a school, a refugee camp or a needy community - we go to those in need, bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ, His healing, His miracles and His love.
Afterwards, we’ll return to Perth together, to share the incredible things God has done and praise Him for the change in our lives and in those He sent us to

A DTS opens doors to all kinds of training and missions opportunities! It will give you a great platform to figure out the next step in your call. Opportunities after completing DTS include further training at YWAM Perth or any other YWAM location through courses such as Foundations for Counselling Ministry, or joining staff as one way of continuing the journey of serving Jesus.

One day in India we visited our contacts’ house and got to pray over eight of their friends and coworkers who had stopped by. For each one we heard their stories and then waited on God for words of encouragement that we could share with them. One girl who asked for prayer said that she had other religious beliefs. As we explained the pictures and verses that the Holy Spirit had put on our hearts for her, words about how God wanted to hold her hand and that He had been with her all along, she began to cry. “That is exactly what I feared [about God]. I didn’t know [He was with me].” It was so cool to see God’s relentless pursuit of her and His kindness in showing pictures again and again to our team of how He has been with her throughout her life, no matter the heartaches. When we asked her if she was ready to accept Jesus and to trust His love for her, she responded, “I have only known crying in my life. If I see good in my life [now, because of Him], I will.”
