“I want to live my life like this”

(originally published August 2025)

We’d love to share a few stories from our outreaches so far this year. Our teams have served in Papua New Guinea, Nepal, Mongolia, Central Asia, Indonesia, the Philippines, the Kimberley in Western Australia, sharing the gospel and meeting needs. It’s always amazing to hear how God is moving in the nations. What a privilege to partner with Him through simple steps of obedience. Here is a glimpse into some of those stories.

Micah, the leader of this year’s 4WD Discipleship Training School, shared, “In Papua New Guinea, our DTS outreach team was invited to preach at a local church. One of the students preached on the bleeding woman who came and touched Jesus’ robe and was miraculously healed. The student invited anyone in the church who was sick to come forward for prayer as a step of faith. Nobody moved for a while, and it was a bit of an awkward silence. But then there was a shuffling, and people started pouring down to the front to receive prayer for healing. The power of God really moved and many were healed, including of significant leg and knee pain, as well as sickness. This opened many further opportunities for the team to see God move in that area.

“In Mongolia our DTS outreach team served with a YWAM base there and some of their staff had done training with us in Perth. It was fun to see a little bit of our YWAM Perth legacy in the nations. While we were there, my wife Katie (who is a midwife), had an opportunity to work with a local doctor and do house visits. One day, they visited an old lady who had extremely high blood pressure. The doctor said she was likely in her last days of life. Katie and one of the DTS students got to share the gospel with her and this old lady accepted Jesus into her heart. This was an incredible opportunity with just a few days left of her life.

“Also while we were in Mongolia, our DTS boys were playing basketball with a bunch of local kids. They set up a challenge with the kids that if we win, then we get to share a story with you. When they reached the last minutes of the game, they got a crazy fluke three-point shot and got to share the story of Jeus with all these kids. About 10 kids decided to follow Jesus that day. A few other kids in the group were already believers and these new believers could now get plugged straight into their friends’ church community, which was amazing.”

As we serve locally and in the nations, so often we find God grows and teaches us as we’re reaching out to others. Two of our recent DTS students shared what this looked like for them:

“Before YWAM, I had never done evangelism before in my life, so the first time I did it was really hard for me. But during one evangelism outing, we met an elderly man who was sitting alone. We approached him, and he was full of emotion and surprise. It turned out he had been questioning God and his faith, and before he left his house that day, he had prayed for someone to come and pray over him. I instantly felt conviction about how the Holy Spirit moves and how God really uses us.”

“I think something for me that really changed is feeling like Jesus is walking next to me in everything I do. I really have a heart for people and care about them in a way I have never cared for people before. I really want to live my life like this.”

Boas (The Netherlands) Young People’s DTS student

Our prayer is that all of our students finish their training wanting to “live my life like this” - knowing God making Him known wherever He would lead them.

Thank you for standing with us as we seek to mobilise this generation for God’s purposes!
