Believing for a Fresh Move of God in Australia

This June, 70 YWAMers from bases across Australia gathered in Alice Springs, central Australia, for Heart for the Nation - a week of united prayer, worship, intercession, evangelism and serving the local church. Together they sought God for a fresh move of His Spirit in Australia that would overflow to the nations.

The gathering grew out of a YWAM Australia meeting in 2025, where God highlighted the call to contend for the heart of the nation in the heart of the nation. A planning team of emerging leaders (between 25-30 yrs) from YWAM bases around Australia helped shape the week alongside Caleb Brownhill, Dave Niebling (YWAM Brisbane) and Heather Kuhl (YWAM Broome).

"What I already see God doing is this quiet revival amongst Gen Z," Caleb shared. "People are getting saved and responding to God. We were praying for an acceleration of spiritual hunger and boldness because revival always comes with bolder preaching of the gospel. Looking at questions of what do we have to deal with? What spiritual strongholds are over this nation that would keep young people from stepping into their calling and destiny?”

Prayer focused on consecration, strengthening of YWAM Australia bases, and committing to release people to pioneer new initiatives, particularly in inland Australia, where YWAM currently has little presence. Unity was another central theme, reflected as local church intercessors and folk from Aboriginal communities joined the gathering, some of whom had experienced deep losses recently.

Participants also served the Alice Springs community. Kate Smith, leader of YWAM Perth’s youth ministry, along with another YWAM staff member met a group of local teenagers. Kate shared that one young woman believed she was "too far gone" for Jesus. After hearing Kate's testimony, she recommitted her life to Christ. "She was so full of joy and peace," Kate said. "God is coming after the next generation."

The week concluded with a youth event attended by 30–40 local teenagers, where 15–20 responded to the invitation to follow Jesus or recommit their lives to Him.

"There was real hunger in the room for Christ," Kate reflected. "It was beautiful to see how God is moving in Gen Z and Gen Alpha in Alice Springs and throughout Australia."

Participants left the gathering, heading back to their YWAM bases or on to further outreach, encouraged and expectant for what God has next. A significant highlight for many of the participants was the large number of YWAM bases represented, all gathered with one clear sense of purpose. Chung En Leong, a leader in YWAM Perth’s training team, shared "It was just really beautiful to see our YWAM family coming together, being strengthened and championing one another."

Woven in with this focus on seeing a new move of God in Australia and to the nations is YWAM Australia's Pass It On Tour initiative. The aim is to “pass on” what God has imparted to YWAM in discipleship and evangelism to small communities and country towns around Australia. YWAM bases are reaching out to connect with the local Body of Christ in towns of 2,000 or more around the nation. The aim is to come alongside what God is doing there and help to further mobilise local believers to impact their towns for His Kingdom. Working closely with local churches, YWAM teams serve through practical projects, youth events, discipleship and evangelism seminars and gospel outreach.

For us at YWAM Perth, so far, we’ve spent time working with the Body of Christ in Kalgoorlie, with Karratha coming up later this year. From there, we’re developing connections in Esperance, Northam and Leonora and trusting God to continue to open more opportunities.
