Simple Ways to Share Jesus With Confidence
(originally published September 2025)
As believers, we often carry the conviction that we should be sharing the Good News with those around us. While we feel this responsibility, research suggests that many of us find it difficult to actively seek opportunities to have conversations about faith and spirituality. There can be many things that contribute to this, including: our busy lives, being unsure of how people will respond, not feeling confident about what to say, worry that we’ll encounter difficult questions we don’t have the answers to.
As YWAMers, sharing the gospel is our “bread and butter” - it’s a central part of what we’re called to. But that doesn’t mean we don’t feel nervous at times or that we know it all! We thought we’d ask our staff and students what they’ve learned about sharing their faith. We hope you find these thoughts encouraging as you trust God to open doors to share with those around you.
"One of my favourite evangelism resources has been looking at the book of Acts and seeing how the apostles went out and spread the word, while also discipling others along the way. It really helped me to get some new strategies and knowledge for evangelism."
- Daniel, School of Evangelism student
"I have learned that often the best method is to ask questions. It gets the person to think about why they believe what they do and doesn’t make them feel swamped with our ‘opinions.’"
- Hayley, School of Evangelism student
"My experience has been that meeting felt needs can open the door for the Gospel to be shared."
- Kristin, staff
"I’ve been learning that evangelism is not just about speaking, but also listening - listening to God, listening to the person you are sharing with, and responding appropriately."
- Dan, staff
Sometimes we may assume people won’t be interested in discussing spiritual things or hearing about Jesus, but there is often surprising openness below the surface. God is actively pursuing people, and if we’re available to His promptings, we can play a part of what He is already doing. Here are a couple examples of that.
"I felt like God gave me a specific picture of a person that He wanted me to talk to, and I ended up finding this guy. So I asked him if he'd ever heard the gospel before. As I was sharing with him, I felt like God spoke to me to ask if he has anyone in his family who had heart problems, and he said he did. I prayed for the family member, and the guy had all these questions about how I knew that, and I told him that God revealed it to me. He said it 'gave him a lot to think about.' It was cool to see that he felt touched and seen by God."
- Daniel, School of Evangelism student
"As we were doing evangelism in Belmont (a local suburb), we met a young Aussie couple. We started talking with them and asked if they were interested in God or if they had been having any questions about faith lately. The girl lit up and nudged her partner and said, 'That’s what you have been having!' So we got to share the gospel with them, and they were interested in meeting again to talk more about faith. We gave them a Bible and introduced them to how to read it. Meeting young Aussies who are hungry for God is so exciting!"

We don’t need to feel pressure that every spiritual conversation must lead to someone deciding to follow Jesus right there and then. It often takes several positive encounters with Christians for someone to be ready for a well-informed, whole-hearted commitment like that. But, if we’re available to God’s promptings we can be a part of the story!
Trusting that God will open opportunities for you to be a light wherever you are – in your workplace, in your neighbourhood, in your school – wherever it would be.
Thank you for standing with us as we seek to mobilise this generation for God’s purposes!
