Certificate 3 in Discipleship
There are no prerequisites to join this DTS
This school is for those who desire to reach Africa with the gospel. Cross-cultural exposure in Africa is the emphases throughout the course, preparing students to evangelise and disciple current and future generations of Africans. You will be a part of an intensive Christian discipleship course that is broken into two phases beginning with a 12-week lecture phase. This phase will encourage you in your personal character development and cultivate a relationship with God. The second phase consists of a 12-week outreach to Africa, giving you the opportunity to discover your unique gifts and calling, specifically relating to the continent of Africa.
Discover the unconventional classroom. You can't say you have done something unless you have lived it. We can't go to Africa and see God's love disciple the nations by just sitting in a classroom.
Our whole way of truly knowing will be in applying things to our everyday lives. By learning to be like Christ to people around us, we can then do the same in Africa. Walking this journey together is the key. We eat meals, solve problems and enjoy God together as He transforms our lives.
What does God say about the big questions? What does the Bible mean in Matthew 22:37-40? To be a Disciple you must know who you are following. To lead others to God you need to know who He is.
Every week we will dive into the Bible and learn more of who God is and what He says to us. We want to develop a worldview that aligns with what God desires according to His Word. This is what it means to follow Christ.
How do we start to see a change in Africa? Prayer. As a school, we have a strong mandate to pray for the needs of African nations. During lecture phase, we spend time learning about different needs and issues of injustice, using this to fuel the direction of our prayer.
We want to see God's name glorified in all the nations of Africa through prayer and worship. It is in this place of prayer and worship, where you will have opportunities to encounter God, learn more of who He is, and deepen your love for Him.
Following the lecture phase of your DTS, you will head off on a 12-week cross-cultural outreach. This is an opportunity to put into practice all that you have learnt during your lecture phase and to demonstrate the love of God. We want to share the hope of Christ in Africa, by partnering with the local church and seeing people discipled. We will also have opportunities to reach people through evangelism and by being the hands and feet of Jesus wherever we go.
Teams regularly partner with local churches and YWAM ministries to strengthen their ministry and see communities reached together. Your final week will be spent back in Perth, debriefing and being equipped to continue with everything that God has done in your life over the six months.
Africa is full of amazing works that are already contributing to the Kingdom of God and we want to walk alongside and see more vision released. We will work with churches, non-government organisations, YWAM bases and anyone who loves Jesus and works to see God's plans and purposes happen in the nations of Africa.
Some places are so unreached that we will need to pioneer and see how the love of God changes people. Together we will go wherever God leads and overcome any obstacles along the way, to seek out the lost and broken in Africa.
God cares not only about peoples' spiritual lives, but also their physical situations. Help to empower people to live life abundantly as Jesus desires, by practically showing God's love. We will equip you to help others with skills and knowledge in areas of need, relevant to their current situations, and see them equipped to share that knowledge with others. Pray for the sick, visit homes, educate in basic health care or other forms of hands-on service, and see people meet Jesus personally.
A lot of Africa has been known to be Christian, however many have yet to discover what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. In a relationship with God, your life looks different to the world. You will help teach people what it means to know who God is in greater depths and follow Him.
Make God known by running seminars, clinics and preaching in local churches, on the streets and in the fields.
