The Influence of Education

Education is a powerful tool of influence. Many great movers in history recognised the importance of teaching, not only to educate and equip people, but also to imprint ideas and world views on their minds.

Vladimir Lenin, a man whose ideology has influenced Russia for over a century once said: “Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.”

Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted. Vladimir Lenin

He understood the importance of teaching the people in order to change the nation. And the nation was changed. As a result Russia was closed to any Christian influence for a long time.

The Bible also tells us a lot about the importance of teaching. God has been teaching us from the very beginning about himself and his ways. The Bible is full of teaching! And as Christians we have been called to pass it on, to disciple the nations through teaching them.

But where does the teaching of the nation take place? There are many different channels for teaching to come through, but one of the most influential ones is the sphere of education.

About 3.7 million children attended school in Australia last year. On top of that there was about 1.3 million university students.

In the USA the equivalent number was 62.8 million.

If we look at India – which has the world’s greatest child population, the number is over 400 million.

That is a lot of people, who every day are sitting in classrooms being influenced with someone’s teaching. What are they being influenced with? What is being imprinted on their minds? Which ideas and ideologies are they going to build their lives on? That will determine where the nation is going.

Every day they learn about the world. Yet, the Creator of the world, the Great I Am, is in most cases not part of the curriculum. Something is not right. God’s heart is grieving for every person that grows up without knowing him and his ways.

As Christians we have a call to bring God’s teaching back into the classrooms of the world. Through prayer, through influence, through teaching.

Let us do what we can so that the nations can be taught about their Creator!
