Images and words which honour people and glorify God
Every person has a story worth sharing. Often in the hearing and sharing of one another’s stories people find hope and a higher perspective. Photography as an art-form provides a unique opportunity to reflect back to people their God-given beauty and dignity.
This four week seminar is about learning to use photography and storytelling to draw audiences close to people and situations that they may never come across otherwise. Students will learn to engage with their subjects in a way that is genuine and authentic, and come away from encounters with quality photographs that tell a story. Students will then learn to exhibit those photos and stories in a way that inspires and educates their audience.
Where does photography fit into the bigger picture of missions? Learn how this skill can be used powerfully to capture and communicate God’s heart for people. Drawing from his love and creativity, we can give expression to our subject’s stories, sharing their joys and tragedies in a way that preserves people’s dignity and honour.
Learn skills with camera and composition that will allow you to capture powerful images in the mission field. Develop your ability to engage with subjects in a way that helps produce pictures that are artistically beautiful, technically strong, and are founded on truth and integrity.
Every photo tells a story. Learn to combine images with written stories that reflect God’s love for people and his care for their circumstances. We will look at techniques for exhibiting photos and stories in way that captures people’s hearts and mobilises them to action.
This Seminar is the third in a series of three seminars, which includes the Contextual Filmmaking Seminar and the Documentary Filmmaking Seminar. These seminars may be taken individually or back-to-back, depending on your training needs.
At the conclusion of the three seminars, an optional outreach will be offered that is open to all seminar participants. Travel with experienced staff into an unreached or needy situation, and put your skills into practice, using media to enhance our communication of the love of God to those who need it most.
This optional outreach will begin at the conclusion of this third seminar, at the end of October.
