The Lecture Phase

Getting to know God and learning how to make Him known

The Medical Discipleship Training School is for anyone wanting to be used by God to reach out to the poor through health care. We start off with three months of lecture phase: 12 weeks of life-transforming teaching with a focus on personal application of truth in response to God.
The lecture phase facilitates incredible growth in and out of the classroom. Medical professionals and those simply with an interest in health care, get a picture of what medical missions could look like. No matter what your background, the DTS is designed to strengthen your foundations to live like Jesus. You will identify your unique gifts and purpose as you pursue God's call on your life.

This is the first half of the Medical Track year: take a gap year and discover your call in medical missions. Follow the DTS with our Primary Healthcare School or Medical Missions School.

What you'll experience during the lecture phase.

Being a follower of Jesus means learning to look like Him, think like Him, and to know His heartbeat. We focus on this through teaching, small groups, community life, and one-on-one input.

Targetted Health Workshops

Did you know: 2.5 million children die every year from diseases that would have been prevented if they’d known to wash their hands. We’ll look at things like this - what are the needs, and what is God's heart for them? In these workshops you'll be prepared for your specific outreach locations, learning simple ways to meet needs where people have little or no access to health care.

Compassionate Approach

How did Jesus approach health care needs? He saw deeper than the physical need and addressed the heart. When looking at the poor and needy, God has a lot to say. We will explore this and look at how we can practically incorporate His compassionate approach to healing in every setting, whether that's evangelism, treatment or day-to-day life.

Outreach Phase

Get ready to see God use you and to see miracles in the nations!

Outreach is about taking what we have learned on lecture phase and putting it into practise! In 2018 we're headed to the beautiful nation of Nepal! During your outreach you will be a part of using health care teaching, dramas, community service, offering health care, Bible reading, evangelism, and pretty much anything else we can use to show the love of God. Medical professionals will gain exposure to the need and see how they can use their skills in missions. Those without a medical background will come alongside, learning basic ways to serve.

Mission experiences during the outreach phase.

Get out there and share the incredible news of the gospel – whether it’s the rush of sharing Jesus with someone for the first time or seeing someone healed in a mobile clinic, you will see God do incredible things as we respond to His call to GO! It could be trekking up to a remote village or teaching basic health messages in a school - or anything in between!

Serving Felt Needs

Practical service in an area where people feel the lack is the best door-opener for the Gospel. Jesus ministered to communities through healing, teaching and spending time with them. We will do the same, using whatever skills or abilities we have! Whether it's taking someone's blood pressure, helping paint a school or just sitting and listening to them, you'll be a part of touching lives.

Health Education

Often the key to improving the health of a community is as simple as teaching them. And what better way than teaching them to teach others how to improve their health? Remember those 2.5 million children we mentioned before? You will be a part of preventing death and disease by teaching these life-saving messages.
