Certificate IV in Christian Missions Counselling (10471NAT)
A successfully completed Discipleship Training School is a prerequisite.
The FCM is all about equipping people to respond to the needs of people in a ministry setting. During the 6-month course, you will learn God’s original design for people, his response to brokenness and a biblical foundation for counselling.
Lecture times, workshops, evangelism and projects all work towards preparing you to identify needs and respond to them with practical skills.
The Foundations for Counselling Ministry school in Perth has a community focus. This means we look at issues not just affecting the individual but also the community in which they live.
Every week you will learn new counselling skills and get experience using them. Learn how to ask the right questions and to provide a safe environment in order to build a deeper counselling relationship.
By doing role plays, you will become familiar with using the counselling tools and will receive supportive feedback.
This is an opportunity to grow in confidence in building relationship with people in the community. A community counsellor goes to where the need is rather than only waiting for people to come to them.
Week 12.Learn more
In this phase of the training, you and your team will go to an overseas location. There you will have the opportunity to put your counselling skills into practice.
This can be in a church, a school, an orphanage, a counselling related ministry or on the streets as God leads us to people.
This is where God will challenge you to step out and seek those who are hurting.
You will have an opportunity to do basic counselling seminars to help equip and bring wholeness to others. This often opens up doors to minister to others on a personal level as well as equip them with important understanding and skills.
Outreach will include many ways for you to help people in cross-cultural situations. At times, this will be in an informal setting as we meet people in the community or a more formal counselling setting.
You and your team will visit different counselling ministries and get to experience the way they work. Through this, you can serve the long-term ministries as well as gain practical experience.
