Who would benefit from this seminar:
Those who would like to interface directly with international crisis of various kinds such as the refugee crisis, human trafficking, natural disasters and more effectively serve in conflict regions.
Those looking to get trained in basic counselling, debriefing and medical response skills for the purpose of discipling, dealing with challenging team dynamics, debriefing where there are extreme stressors and trauma, and more effectively walking alongside individuals and teams as they process life circumstances.
Our lectures are all about equipping you with practical knowledge to meet the needs of those in crisis. We'll start by teaching basic counselling principles, then look at the effects of trauma and theories of debriefing, and finish off the seminar with practical medical response techniques.
Our goal is to give you not only knowledge, but also an understanding of how to apply it! During our workshops and skills training, you'll experience interactive, hands-on learning scenarios where you can put the knowledge from lectures into practice and receive helpful feedback.
You will be taught how to respond to a medical crisis in practical ways; how to take a patient history and assess and treat physical injuries. We will also look at mental health issues and how to handle those in crisis situations. During hands-on teaching, you'll receive certified first aid training from St. John's Ambulance.
