Know God more deeply, live more like Jesus, and use your gifts and passions in missions
The Compassion Discipleship Training School lecture phase is three months of intensive discipleship and meeting with God. Grow in your relationship with God by studying His word, understanding His character and ways, and bringing practical application to your daily life. What does it mean to follow God in our actions, words and thoughts in every circumstance? Each week we'll focus on a different topic in class, but outside of lectures we will also have times of worship, prayer, intercession for the nations and reaching out to the city of Perth.
Compassion DTS is unique in providing practical outreach to the poor and needy every week! We will also learn practical skills in healthcare and community development to use during the outreach phase.
Compassion DTS is for anyone who wants to know God more, has the heart to serve God, and demonstrate love for people in very practical ways.
Every Tuesday afternoon we do community outreach in Perth. We serve alongside existing ministries such as Australian Mercy (helping families in crisis), TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language), and Priceless (reaching out to street kids and potentially working in a detention centre). This is a great way to show God's love through helping those in need.
Each week, we learn specific skills that will equip us for outreach. We focus primarily on basic health care and community development, but may also cover topics like art, Bible study, and teaching.
The skills we learn are not just for us to use, but also to for us to teach others while we are on outreach. Topics include fever reduction, HIV/AIDS, hand washing, oral rehydration solution, building a water filter, biogas, etc.
What better way to gain a greater heart for the lost than to pray? During lecture phase, we spend time learning about different nations and issues of injustice, using this to fuel our prayer.
We will also have regular times of worship, both as a YWAM community and as a DTS. It's these time of encountering God together that allows us to know Him more, and deepen our love for Him.
12 weeks of lectures featuring a variety of speakers that will help you grow in your relationship with God
To bring the Good News to those who haven't heard it
Outreach is where you get to live out what you've learned during lecture phase - but that's just the beginning!
The main thrust of outreach is to make God known, and we will do this through many different avenues such as evangelism, teaching in youth groups, meeting practical needs, kids ministry, etc.
It is also a time of being immersed in different cultures, living among locals, learning new (and sometimes unexpected) skills, growing together and encountering God through it all.
Outreach will take you to many different places. We are committed to going to far and remote villages, to some of the largest cities in the world, and anything in between. Our main focus is on the continents of Africa and Asia, and there is a lot of diversity to be found! Get ready to hop on buses, trains, planes or even bicycles to go and bring the good news to those who haven't heard!
The skills you learn on lecture phase we'll use on outreach! Whether this is English teaching, wound care, running seminars on health care or building water filters - we will use this to meet practical needs. We also pass on what we've learned about our relationship with God to others. Discipleship seminars, teaching, and even preaching are ways we often serve on outreach.
An important practical need we want to meet is introducing people to God! Many people have never heard the gospel and do not know Jesus. During outreach, we will have a lot of opportunities to share the gospel and lead people into knowing God more. We do this by building relationships with people, sharing testimonies, performing dramas, worshiping on the streets and more. There are so many creative ways! Be ready to have lots of fun and see God work through you.
