The Christian Surfers Discipleship Training School begins with three months of lecture phase. The focus of this time is on personal application of truth and response to the character of God.
Throughout the weeks, you will be actively learning and encountering God through school, base activities and 6 weeks of lectures in Margaret River. Your weeks will include lectures, worship times, prayer times, small groups and personal discipleship, surfing, community outreach and adventures in Western Australia.
After 3 weeks of Perth we will all head to Margaret River for 6 weeks of Lecture Phase. Margaret River is a beautiful surf destination that is a strategic training place for Surfers reaching surfers. Over the years we have spent lots of time investing into the community and hope to be further equipped as surf missionaries from this place.
After this we will go back to Perth to be sent out on outreach!
We are serious about providing you with on-going discipleship and support. This happens through one-on-one mentorship, where you will get to regularly meet with your staff member to process all the information and experiences that a DTS offers. There are many opportunities provided to actively respond to God's word and teaching, both in small groups and the classroom. Applying the word of God is just as important as hearing it.
Christian Surfers International aims to be a Christian presence and witness in the surfing community by evangelising, serving the local church and networking with Christian Surfer missions.
We recognise the different strengths that CS, YWAM and others can offer each other and we are continuing in this partnered DTS in order to see the Kingdom of God grow through our love and passion for God and surfing. One of our hopes is that this school will empower surfers to have a personal vision for long-term service in a local surf community. check out www.christiansurfers.org.au and www.christiansurfers.net
Outreach phase is when we put into action everything we have learned during the lecture phase. The heart of outreach is to effectively communicate the love of God to the people we encounter. We do this through a variety of ministry opportunities. Ministry varies according to location, but the bottom line is evangelism and discipleship. You will be sharing Jesus with people you meet through many activities. These activities could include youth ministry, evangelism, and practical service. Our teams will partner with long-term YWAMers, Christian Surfers, local church ministries or contacts in outreach locations.
Outreaches are led by YWAM DTS staff who also maintain personal discipleship and input for you to continue to grow in your relationship with God and life direction.
Surfers DTS outreaches regularly involve a focus on supporting existing pioneering ministry. Teams often are involved in prayer support and encouragement through a variety of ways. We also get out and engage with people on the streets and in communities. Overall, a large part of our ministry time is directed towards presenting Jesus in both word and deed in some of the hardest to reach places on the planet.
Our outreaches typically include trips to bring Jesus to those that may never have heard His truth. Teams have adventured through remote jungles, mountains, and villages to share with and pray for people groups. Our presence is credibility and it means a lot to simply Go, Pray and Read the Bible in place where the gospel is not allowed to be preached.
Surfers DTS outreaches often return to some of the places we have been to before, in order to maintain a relationship and build towards lasting growth and development for ongoing ministry. We have been to many locations over the last ten years and supported many long-term visions in countries such as Sri Lanka, South Africa, Philippines, Indonesia, and Vanuatu. Follow-up is one of the most important aspects of sharing the gospel, and we have seen lasting fruit from our efforts in these nations.
