Be Strong and Courageous
A testimony by Tim Kyung-il Jang, Communication and Cross-cultural Engagement in Christian Missions (CCE) 2015:
“It has been a very exciting and challenging experience for my wife Hanna and me to learn a foreign language (English), in a foreign country, Australia. Our 4-year old daughter Elrim was in YWAM Perth pre-school and was well taken care by CCE staff while we attended the 6-month school. This was our first time away as a family for a long time outside Korea.
Upon my arrival here, I was given the scripture in Joshua 1:6 ‘Be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the Law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.’ I found this verse had been very real to me.
At the beginning, it was very difficult and challenging time for me. I couldn’t speak or understand English. I avoided talking to English speaking people who also found difficulty to understand me. I experienced language shock and culture shock. But after I allowed God to change my attitudes and character, I found it easier to respect and submit to authority. I began to enjoy and grow in my language learning and relationship with people including my own family with a servant heart like Jesus and not as a duty.
When my family and I are back in Korea, may God open door for me to do ministry with other foreigners in my city while preparing for the arrival of our 2nd child and waiting on God for the next thing He has for us. Lastly I like to thank God for helping me according to Joshua 1:6 to be strong and courageous to finish CCE very well, and CCE staff and YWAM Perth.
