700 for 30 – YWAM Perth’s Anniversary Celebration
For as long as I have been here Youth with a Mission Perth has always been a place of joy and celebration. This base hosts many warm smiles, encouragements and much hope for the future. But the Celebrations Week (a whole week dedicated to celebrating YWAM Perth’s 30th anniversary) took things to a whole other level! YWAM students and alumni gathered from near and far until 700 of us were together in the very place we were celebrating.
Mornings consisted of services – awesome times of worship, teachings and a lot of hearing God’s voice. A resounding message of the week was ‘what you do in obedience to God will change the world.’ We realised that YWAM Perth came to be because Pete Brownhill had heard God and obeyed – and it really has changed the world! This excited us to see what wonders our obedience to God will turn into!
Services were accompanied by videos from our friends around the world – and even the founder of Youth with a Mission worldwide, Loren Cunningham! It was an honour to have a live stream session with him, in which he taught on the urgency of the call of God. Stories were also shared from the early days of YWAM Perth (which was before a lot of us were born!) and we loved the throwback photos, 80’s hair and 90’s fashion! It was so cool to see how the base has evolved over time.
Afternoons were dedicated to games; games on the base, games at the park, games at the beach! Tag rugby, water fights, YWAM Olympics, you name it! And the festivities only got even better in the evenings! The base hosted an ice cream truck, a Mexican food stand, more games (!) and a surprise honouring service for Pete Brownhill. It was nice to be a part of that service and be reminded to stop to take the time to express appreciation for our leaders and others.
All in all, it was an amazing week of celebrating the past and what already has happened, but it only increased the anticipation of what we as YWAM Perth will be celebrating in the future – in the next 30 years and in all the time to come! The past has been bright, but we know the future is even brighter!
The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. Proverbs 4:18
