6 Reasons Why a DTS is Perfect for a Married Couple

Being married means to live in an intimate relationship with another person. Marriage is given from God, for us. It is also an image for the intimacy God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit have. As a couple, we need to find the purpose and calling God has for us together, not just as individual people.

No matter where you are at – if you already have a heart or even calling for missions or simply want to find out where God is leading you, a Discipleship Training School (DTS) is perfect for a married couple! It might be, that one of you has already done a mission trip and the other one hasn’t, but you both have a heart for missions. It could be that you both don’t have any missions experience. You might have already talked about your future together and about plans you have for your life and for your marriage. Or you don’t have any special plans and simply want to know more about God.

Wherever you are at, we want to give you at least six reasons why a DTS is the perfect thing for you to do:

What a privilege to have teaching together and be able to search for more of God alongside one another.

1. You will grow in your relationship with God

As simply as it sounds – that is the most amazing thing about doing a DTS! Each week of lectures there is a different topic. That means that you will grow in your understanding you have about God. It is more than amazing to experience that together with your spouse. What a privilege to have teaching together and be able to search for more of God alongside one another. The encounter you have with God during that time will change your life! It doesn’t matter if you became a Christian just a little while ago or if you already follow Jesus all your life. He ALWAYS has so much more for you!

You will see your marriage being used as a tool to model God’s love to others.

2. You will grow in your relationship with one another

During the 12 weeks of teaching, community, and work, you get the opportunity to know each other in an even deeper and more intimate way than you could imagine. You don’t just get together in the evening and share about the hard times of the day, rather you get to experience most of the things together and God can stir up similar topics in your mind. You can discuss them right away and grow in learning how to serve alongside one another. You will see your marriage being used as a tool to model God’s love to others.

A DTS is a great way to make your marriage a God-adventure!

3. You won’t be able to life an ordinary life afterwards

When you get married it seems like the biggest adventures in your life from that point on will be having children, buying a house, and owning a dog. While there is nothing wrong with that, don’t be surprised if you have a longing for more than that after your DTS. God has amazing plans for you as a married couple. He wants to use you to reach out to the people around you. This could be in your home country or maybe somewhere on the other side of the world. Either way – life with God in the centre will NEVER get boring! A DTS is a great way to make your marriage a God-adventure!

You will be part of God’s great plan to bring His light into dark places and hope to the hopeless.

4. You will travel the world

Do you want to experience other cultures, have friends from all over the world, try extraordinary food, and see some of the most beautiful places on this planet? Well – it is most likely that you will achieve all of these goals during your DTS. And it is more than just a normal “around the world” trip. You will get to know the locals and help them in different areas. For example, it might be that you help in a village after there was a disaster. Besides that, you will teach them basic health care, play games with the kids, and share about Jesus. You will be part of God’s great plan to bring His light into dark places and hope to the hopeless. But be careful – afterwards you might feel a little homesick of all the amazing places and people you have met in different countries.

After your DTS, you will have another focus on life and clearer understanding of your purpose.

5. Your focus will change

After your DTS, you will have another focus on life and clearer understanding of your purpose. Sometimes we can be too focused on circumstances, problems and things we have or don’t have. But through lectures and outreach you will develop a different view. God wants to have our full attention, whether everything is fine in our current situation or not. That doesn’t mean that all problems will be gone. We all know those incredible pictures where one thing in the front is sharp, but everything else is blurry and you often don’t know exactly what’s there. That happens when our focus changes. The “background” is still there, but what you see sharp is God.

6. You will only have one roommate

And by the way: as a married couple you have to share your room with only one person instead of up to 24 people on bunk beds! 🙂

Don’t let your marriage hinder you from following God wholeheartedly. We are glad that we stepped out and made this decision to do a DTS together.
