WHAT DO WE DO ON THE SFM? (PART 1)
By Ben Mc
Media, Missions, and the Glory of God
Over the next few months we’re going to look at each of the topics that we cover on the School of Frontier Media, to give everyone who’s interested an idea of what goes on during our 12-week lecture phase.
The SFM covers a lot of different media skills, but we also realize that without the right communication and character principles, our production work isn’t going to be what it needs to be. Our heart is that our communication is effective and anointed, so in Week 1 of the school we get into it right away with teaching that we call “Media, Missions & the Glory of God.”
During the week, we take time to look at God as a communicator and to understand his call upon us to be his communicators. We examine the implications of responding to and obeying his word in our media production, and talk about developing a prayer strategy. And we consider the implications of the Great Commission and what it means for us as media workers in God’s Kingdom. Over the years, we’ve been blessed to have a range of great speakers from both within and outside of YWAM Perth covering this material.
One SFM graduate writes, “That first week of the SFM really laid the groundwork for the rest of the school. I was challenged to realize that if I wasn’t communicating out of God’s heart, than my communication wasn’t going to have the impact for the Kingdom of God that I wanted. That was key input to have as we went into learning about video production, scriptwriting, and all the rest of it. And it has been essential as I have stepped out into serving the nations through media as my full-time calling.”
Join us here soon for another look into the SFM lecture phase. Coming next: Photography!
