SFM '08 OUTREACH
By Kimberly, SFM Graduate!
Twelve weeks of media and missions!
Holy Spirit? Check. Bug spray? Check. Cameras? Check, check. Sound equipment? Check. Extra charged batteries? Um, oh yeah, here they are, check. Everyone here? OK, pile into the taxi!
This is the gist of an SFM ’08 outreach checklist. These things, plus team unity, grace from God, flexibility, and passion for media allowed us to do what we did in our five weeks overseas in Indonesia.
We spent the first two weeks with other outreach teams. We captured their compassion as they prayed for the poor, fed the needy, loved the orphans, gave hope to the hopeless, and encouraged the saints. We filmed stories of YWAMers bringing transformation to one of the largest cities in the world. It was an inspiring experience.
Afterwards, we travelled south. We had so much luggage amongst us girls that we couldn’t fit Ben (our school leader) in the van. He rode in a separate vehicle with seven strangers. We spent the next three weeks filming three projects for one of the largest unreached people groups in the world: an evangelistic video, a mobilization video, and a music video. It was an improbable but possible (with God) deadline, considering we came with nothing but an idea for an evangelistic drama and a heart for the people.
God’s grace came abundantly. Things began to fall into place. A script for the evangelistic video (EV) was written in the midst of filming the mobilization film. Music was produced while we filmed the EV. We prepared for anything and brought our cameras everywhere: the woods, slums, malls, toilets, in the rain, a fishing village, and in the middle of a rice patty. We finished filming six hours before we packed into vans to return to the airport and boarded a plane for Perth.
We were happy to be back with our YWAM Perth family for the rest of outreach, even though we missed our new friends in Indonesia. As we edited the projects at Create International and began to see it all come together, we continued to learn about God’s faithfulness and love for the unreached.
