PHOTOGRAPHY SEMINAR

By Ben Mc

Learning new skills and expanding comfort zones.

Recently, the School of Frontier Media (SFM) had the privilege of having Dennis Fahringer, a vastly experienced YWAM photographer and teacher from Kona, Hawaii, offer the fruit of his expertise to our school. Our normally small group expanded by several as we opened the class up to a seminar for other YWAM Perth staff. It was a great time learning about “writing with light”, and the participants all the chance to head out into the city of Perth several times to put their new skills into practice.

Below are some testimonies from some of the students, sharing about their experience on the seminar.

"I enjoyed the Photography Seminar very much, and found photography a fun and creative way to experience the world around me. The seminar gave me a unique and different encounter to anything I have experienced in missions. It also gave me a foundation to build on, as photography is something that we can improve on as we do it more. "
– Johan, South Africa

"I love photography – love it! Dennis Fahringer speaking on my school was an incredible opportunity. He really desired for me to improve as a photographer, and he was always available to answer questions. Like Dennis, I too can use my artistic skills like photography for God and missions."
– Nathan, Canada

"One of my favourite things about doing the photo seminar last week was going out in the city to do some actual photo shoots. Not only did I get to put into practice what I was learning, I also got to see Perth in a different way. It's easy to rush through the city without really noticing the life and people there. When you are walking around with the camera looking for the perfect photo, you suddenly start noticing things you wouldn't otherwise have seen. I was challenged to try to see people the way God sees them and document their incredible beauty and value."
– Anders, Denmark
