MY WORK EXPERIENCE

By Maggie French

An exploration of YWAM from a unique perspective...

After a stressful few days running around Busselton, desperately searching for a work experience placement, I ran into a very good friend who is a part of YWAM Perth. She got excited when I told her I was looking for work experience and a few days later it was made official that I would be doing my work experience at YWAM Perth.

My work experience started at the end of YWAM's April quarter so a lot of people had just come back from outreaches in Mexico and the base was packed out with students, leaders and staff from all over the world. I loved meeting all these friendly new people and hearing about where they were from.

Each day I worked in a different ministry and got to experience what happens and how each of them contribute to the base. I worked in Hospitality where they make everyone feel at home, the Australian Relief and Mercy Service which goes to struggling people's homes to help out in lots of practical ways, Pathways, a minstry involved with helping refugees, the Media office, the Kitchen and a few more awesome ministries. I really loved working in each ministry and thought it was just the most amazing fun being able to help out, to get to know people and to serve Jesus.

During my stay I learnt a lot about what happens with YWAM and the different things people are involved in such as all the different Discipleship Training Schools. After hearing stories about people who have been on outreach to different countries or the amazing time they had, I started to think about doing a DTS when I finish school. I learnt about the different doors that YWAM opens for people that will take them on different journeys to serve God and see the world.

I found that sometimes the things I did were a bit overwhelming, but this was what I had wanted; to step out of my comfort zone and try new things and to really strive to have a new experience and I think I really have had an amazing experience while spending two weeks here at YWAM Perth.
