Megacities Kickoff 2010!

Megacities has begun in Mexico City!On the 6th March, leaders, pastors, churches, and teams joined in an evening of prayer and consecration asking God to come visit their city. Teams that have already gone into the city as set-up teams are saying,

"One of our goals as a Megacities team was to help the church, specifically the youth, reach out to their own city. What we have seen God do through the church is really awesome. We have been teaching this church's youth evangelism and now they are out spreading the good news in their neighborhood." - DTS Outreach Team Leader, YWAM Mazatlan

"We got to teach 4 churches how important it is to reach out to our local community....we also taught how to prayer walk, which they had never heard of before. Each time we came back from prayer walking they were really excited about their community, and have already started to see change in their community." - Megacities DTS Student, YWAM Perth

"It's incredible, we are only the "first wave"... people are so open to receiving the Lord. Nearly every person we met was willing to receive prayer.... Three 16-18 year olds said they did believe in God. We asked if they would not just believe in Him, but give their lives to Him and the three said yes!" - October DTS, YWAM Perth

This is just the beginning of the breakthrough that God wants to bring in Mexico City in 2010! More teams are applying to come join Megacities in Mexico City everyday! More than 70 in process! Around 15 teams have already been to the city, God is moving in Mexico City. Come join us!

20 People Saved at 1st Megacities Cooperate

Before Megacities officially launched in Mexico City on the 6th of March, there were teams already in the city, hitting the streets doing evangelism, praying for people and so much more. On the 16th of February, over 130 people, from teams and local pastors, gathered in the centre of the city, an area called Zocalo, to do street evangelism.

Zocalo is a huge square in the center of the city. It is surrounded by the Mexican parliament and the national palace where the president lives. The teams got together prayed, and then headed to various points around Zocalo. God truly showed up and moved in incredible ways! Teams shared the gospel in an open air presentation with over 200 people, and altogether prayed for 105 people, and witnessed 20 salvations!

One of the pastors who went out with the team had never done street evangelism before. He was so excited and threw himself into it. He began to share loudly, partnered with different team members. It was awesome!

One international team member shared with three young men. God gave her a word of knowledge and she said to one of the men "You've been partying, and you don't like it and you want to get out of it." Shocked, the man replied that it was true. He was amazed and then one of his friends began to cry. She ended up praying with them, and all three of them gave their lives to the Lord.

As we look ahead into the next 12 months, we are full of faith that He will continue to do miracles and ignite people's passion for the lost!

God's heart for Education

God is looking for people who are willing to step into the sphere of Education and be his ambassadors there. In Matthew 28: 18-20 Jesus instructed his disciples to make disciples of every nation and teaching them in ALL the ways of God. He wants his truth to bring transformation to all areas of our lives and society, also the area of education. His teachings apply to all aspects of life - also our schools!

And what makes more sense than teaching people God's ways in our schools and universities - which should be the place where people can learn truth and learn how to live according to it...

Still we know that in today's education models this is very often not case. Many universities and schools that were originally founded on Christian beliefs no longer profess or teach those beliefs.

What does God want us to do about it?

The Christian Magna Carta says as follows about education:

Everyone on earth has the right to have a Christian education available for their children.

God's heart is that every child on earth would be able to receive an education based on his truth. An education that does not argue against God's truth but that places God where he belongs: In the center of every subject we teach.

The earth is the Lord's and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters. (Psalm 24:1)

Everything we learn about is a part of God's world. So if everything we learn about belongs to Him - then it would only be right that he would be in the center of the learning, not only in Bible class, but also in biology, language and math! As one passionate Christian teacher put it: "God is the curriculum". Getting to know our Creator is the most important part. Then we can learn about His world that we live in from Him, who also happens to be the best teacher...

God is looking for people who are willing to step into the sphere of education and be his ambassadors there. To take back what the enemy has stolen and bring God and his truth back to the classrooms. Maybe you are one of them?

Headed to Melbourne?

Studying Genesis this week with Bill MuehlenbergWhat do you do with the first book of the Bible? Isn't it just a book to get through on your way to the New Testament? It is the foundation of our faith, the origins of where we come from, and the demonstration of God's heart for the world. God created us and the earth, what is our responsibility as Christians? We have been looking at the bits and pieces but now we are going to look at the whole and totals. If you would like to make a difference in the world as a Christian, study Genesis with us or head to this conference in Melbourne this coming weekend and talk to some of these people.

http://www.atheistconvention.org.au/

Mexico City

How do we address the needs of this city? The city of Mexico is the second largest city in the world. 40% of Mexico city's inhabitants live below the poverty line. Despite the high level of poverty, there are many rich who isolate themselves within secured communities, living in luxury with rooftop swimming pools and some even commuting by helicopter. The city overall suffers from severe overcrowding with many areas inhabited by squatters. The city has great problems with pollution and water supply as well as about one third of the city without sewage facilities. There are many social problems with high crime rates.

There are many areas of society within Mexico City that need to see development. The problems are scattered across all areas of life, so holistic development is crucial to see Biblical transformation come.

YWAM Perth is focussing on Mexico City this year by way of the Megacities vision. Mexico needs to see transformation from the roots so that the church can rise up to take its place and see the city truly transformed.

The Foundations in Community Devlopment school is a school that addresses many of the problems that Mexico City has. If you want to be equipped to be able to help communities such as this to develop in a Biblical way, bringing true freedom and guiding people to attain God's intentions for them, then this could be the school for you.

Soap Making

Make some soaps to save lives - extravagant, but true...So to end the week with Sue and Phil, we were sent scampering around the base to get all our utensils and ingredients ready to make the amazing SOAP. Soap! You read right.

What does soap have to do with health care? It can save lives, especially in places where the incidence and prevalence of diarrhoea and diseases caused by worms are high. Teaching the poor how to make soap from what is available in their community is great I reckon. Comes second after having clean water to drink, wash and bathe in.

So Terence and I had our fun, making some mistakes (thank God rescue-able ones!) along the way, and adding our own signature to it (it was Terence's idea) - orange zest! And some lavender oil. In 4-6 weeks from now, our soap will be ready to use during outreach.

Can't wait! Maybe I should start a soap-making business...hmm...

We have had the privilege of hearing from some great guest speakers such as Alan May from Canberra and our own Anna Davis and Pete Brownhill, speaking on such topics as the book of Revelation, Hebrews and Preaching and Teaching.
A wealth of knowledge and passion has been expressed through these speakers and the school has really been blessed though their teaching.
We are about to embark on our bible reading away weekend, where we will spend a weekend by the beach reading the first 5 books of the Bible, so excited to hear God speak through these amazing scriptures!
So if you could be keeping us in your prayers as 4 of us who are going on outreach to Mexico City are trusting God for our finances to come in within the next few days!
God's Grace and the Gospel Preached through ART - the AES are in Mexico

Two testimonies from students on the Art Evangelist's School During my time in Mexico City, God has been teaching me about understanding grace in my life. It is when we know we have been forgiven much that we can love much. The more that God reveals the grace he has had in my own life, the more I am filled with love for the people of Mexico City, and the more I desire for them to experience that same grace every day. It has been amazing to be part of what God is doing in this city - both in the streets and in the church. In the streets the people are so ready to understand grace and receive Jesus, and the local church has such excitement and anticipation for God to move in their city.

Rachel Ludlow AES 2009/10

Even though I studied Fine Art in Korea, I had never been part of evangelism through art. In the AES I've realized how I can preach the Gospel through art, and what I have to prepare for preaching the Gospel through art. I could find out the secret that God lives in me through the life in Perth on Lecture phase.
It's so amazing! It would be a perfect answer for my twenties' struggle.

Young-Jae Lee AES 2009 / 10

It's an Adventure

Dont wanna miss itContinuing on from last week...
I am going to share a bit of my story.
Surfing meant a lot to me, too much I'd say. Before DTS I had a hard time surfing without getting frustrated with someone, anyone, didn't matter who. the problem was with me. Surfing became my sort of escape from everything else but soon enough my frustrations and anger caught up with me in the water. I would try and get excited for someone else's wave till they sprayed me in the face and all i could think of was some sort of curse word in my head. Something had to change and the Lordship week of my DTS in 2005 was where I said to God. Ok, God you can have my surfing. An easy statement to make maybe, but to me it meant a lot more. That was my thing, on my time, to do and think and be me. I hadn't let God reign there. So was I willing to not surf another day in my life. I had to be if i was to give it all up to God.
I gave it up. My next surf after that was on our trip down to Margaret River. We checked out a place our leaders called faithful's cause it was just that, faithful. Everytime we went that wave was breaking. This time, however, my first time, I committed that surf to God and decided to simply paddle way out the back of the break and just be, me and God together. It was great. One of the best times I had had with God in the water. Everyone else was catching great waves, some were taking a good pounding, and I was perfectly content to continue to pray with God.

Then out of nowhere a huge set came. Which wasn't uncommon if you know the famous sneaker sets of Margaret River. Well, just so happened I was in perfect position for this one and managed to catch it and ride it all the way in down the line for about 100 meters or more. I got off that wave happier and with the biggest smile on my face. It had all changed.
That's how God gave surfing back to me. And he continually does remind me of this so I know that this is His sport and not mine.

The next few months were legendary in my books. That same thing seemed to happen over and over. Me paddling out the back and catching the irregular wave of the day. Seriously can't explain it! That first one is one I'll never forget. Thanks God, You really know how to give good gifts. To surf is a gift, to know God means the world.

Come and join us. One month away till the next one starts. There is still time.

More Than Medical Skills

Confronted by my own cultureGod takes me to the nations by bringing me back to Perth. There are 14 of us in the class, representing 12 nations. Everyday is a learning experience for me. I am confronted by my own culture everyday, whether I am ready or otherwise, I am thrown into the war zone.

No, we do not fight with each other. But I believe we are at war within ourselves and what it really means to love the 1 Cor 13 way. I am particularly aware of my background and how different it is from others.

One thing I have learnt is that my culture is not better than any other, there are some things I need to confront within me that are not pleasing to God, which are connected to the very background I came from. God defines me, and my friends from those 11 other nations help me towards that.

It is a joy to be a part of this school. Yes, we learn more than medical skills - we also learn to love one another the way God would want us to. That makes the message of unity more authentic; and bringing the Gospel through our love for one another speaks more than words could ever.

Mexico

some stories from our time in Mexico CityJust a couple reports. We are in contact with 5 churches and a group of Christians at the university.

2 days ago, we went to the Basilica de Guadalupe (biggest site for Catholics in Latin Am) and had people from the 3 different churches (about 15 from one church) we have been working with. Also, 3 of the students from the university came with us. It was their first time doing evangelism. 2 of them went with Tracey. They began to pray for people and were seeing people getting healed (which the 2 boys were amazed at) and so Tracey took the opportunity to ask the group surrounding them (by then it was 15 people) if they had a personal relationship with >Jesus and if they wanted one. So they all prayed with Tracey to rededicate their lives to Jesus.

That same night, we prayed for a woman who hadn't walked in 6 years. She was in a metro accident and used a walker. WE prayed for her for about 30 minutes and in the end, she had o pain when she walked and walked without the walker. Her mom began to cry. The mom wanted prayer for her hand. So, the team prayed for her and she was instantly healed as well. We have tons more stories from that night.

Yesterday, we went to the university. The purpose of the time yesterday was to go on buses and sing a worship song and preach. We had 3 different churches, us and the university students with us. It was the first time for the university students to do anything like that and 3 of them preached for the first time! They were so excited in the end and are ready to keep going. So, they will continue to do it. It is great that we are seeing so many different groups working together! THat's what we are here for. Tonight, 2 other churches are coming to our host church's youth group for support and to hang out.

She faithfully walked with me through the growing pains, when not much seemed to be moving. As we looked back, we saw that God had indeed been building a firm foundation into this ministry, and prayer has been a large part of this.

Ava has a big heart for people of all ages, and a desire for them to know God and His truths.
Next Sports DTS

News, changes and a testimony! There is a really exciting Sports DTS here in Perth coming up in just over 4 months from now. We are still running the Sports DTS twice a year with the next one starting in July, and then again in October. The October Sports DTS is actually on outreach right now in Mexico City and having an amazing time there working with Megacities.

We have some big changes happening to our Sports DTS's this year with a change of leadership. I (Arlen) have been leading the July Sports DTS here in Perth for the past 3 years but I am passing on leadership to Trisha Hooper. Trisha pioneered the Sports DTS here back in 2006 and also leads our Sports Ministry. She is an amazing leader, talented, and has a heart to reach out through sports and also train others to use their talents to impact nations with the gospel.

We would love to have you with us for a Sports DTS! Let us know if you are interested by just filling out our web enquiry, giving us a call or emailing us at info@ywamperth.org.au. It would be great to be in touch with you.

God has been doing so many amazing things in people's lives through the DTS's here and the Sports DTS is no exception. DTS is a real time to grow in your relationship with God, strengthen your foundation in the Word of God, and get to know more about God's passionate heart for all people. You get to experience first hand God's power to transform an individual's life and also see first hand God working through you.

Josh is an aussie who did the Sports DTS in July last year and came back this January to do the School of Frontier Media. I had a chat with him yesterday about it and here is a bit of a summary of what he shared with me.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why did you do a Sports DTS here in Perth?
Josh was actually planning to do a MediaReach DTS in April in Perth but wasn't able to get his finances in time to come. The next one he was able to come for was July and the Sports DTS really stood out to him. Josh is an avid sportsman and very athletic so it was a good fit. He really liked the idea of using sports as a way to connect with people and share the gospel.
His reason for doing a DTS was really to deepen his relationship with God and get back to a place of intimacy with him. Also to get space and time to really seek God for answers in the hard questions and deep issues.

Favorite week of lectures?
Character of God with Richard Blake -It showed how knowing who God really is was the foundation of the Christian faith. The teaching week really dealt with lies and misconceptions about God, especially in regards to God being loving and good. "Knowing who God actually was rather than who I thought he was allowed me to grow much more in relationship with him"

Highlight of outreach?
Connecting and sharing with high school kids at Hout Bay in South Africa. He feels like God is leading him into media ministry, especially focused on film and using his skills (he's very talented) to impact that part of society. In about a month he and the SFM will be heading to India to film and produce evangelistic material and a mobilization video for an unreached people group there.

Josh also made a short movie about the Sports DTS 2009 outreach. He did a great job so I just put it on our website. Click here to check it out!

24-7 worship

worship around the clock is starting in perthAt the beginning of February we embarked on a journey to see 24-7 worship established in YWAM Perth. This has been something that has been on my heart to do for years and we've often set aside several days or a week at a time to worship around the clock.

Prayer and worship has been foundational to everything else we've done as YWAM Perth. When the pioneering team came across in 1985 they spent 120 days of that first year in prayer and fasting! Through the years we've had numerous prayer focuses and seasons as we've needed to see God come through.

In Febraury 1998 we started a 24-7 prayer chain that included all of our staff and students. God told us when to start, but He didn't tell us when to stop and we're still continuing that prayer chain today.

And in February 2010 we launched into 24-7 worship! The goal is to have worship and prayer happening on location around the clock. Right now we're doing a few hours a week, but hoping to keep increasing that regularly.

The School of Worship 2010 will have the opportunity to join in those 24-7 worship times to help lay the foundations for what God is creating. I'm hoping that many who do the school will feel called by God to join the team to see 24-7 worship established!

The Living Water

The analogy of Jesus as the Living Water and drinking clean waterI knew there was something right about drinking clean water all my life. What I didn't know was that so many people in Asia and Africa die because they do not have access to either drinking or using clean water daily. How blessed I am for all the water that I have!

As I type this, there will be probably more than 20 persons who have died from the time I started. It is that daunting an issue. Look at your children, your nephews or nieces, your parents, your siblings. They could have died if not for the fact that they had clean water to drink all their lives. Imagine tears, wailing, sadness, suffering and pain for all 365 days and for all your life.

And I understand better now when Jesus says He is the living water, He really meant it literally as well! Drinking water without parasites, worm larvaes, amoebas and etc means that nothing other than minerals will be affecting my health, and yours. And living water also means there is life that comes with drinking the water because of the oxygen and the life-giving minerals in it. Jesus comes to give life and all the joys together with it!

IPHC is moulding my mind and heart about God's heart for life transformation wholly. The physical is as spiritual as what we normally call the spiritual! As you can see this school is revolutionary! You should come too! I'm excited for more!

Three weeks of outreach in Mexico City... and stil more to comeHere In Mexico City The Sports DTS has spent almost three weeks here in Naucalpan a region in the North West of Mexico City. We have enjoyed the tremendous hospitality of the people here in Mexico City and spent many hours playing sports with the locals as we build relationships with many young people in the high schools and universities. We started our trip flying through Singapore to Los Angeles where we had a short layover in LAX. Many Americans thoroughly enjoyed going to a local burger place called "In and Out Burger". Then we flew into Mexico City late in the evening and were greeted by many pastors and contacts we were going to be working with in the next few weeks. "Team Strength" led by myself Landon Troyer, are staying with a pastor in our Region of Naucalpan. We have enjoyed many days of working with the local youth group and seeing seminars scheduled here for churches in the area. The speakers will be Pete Brownhill, Caleb Brownhill and Neil Gamble here at the church. We are very excited for the start of Mega Cities here in the region.
As a team we have spent time sharing the Gospel in the streets of Naucalpan as a team and along with youth from the church who translate for us when we do street evangelism. It has been a great time and we look forward to seeing more people come to know the Lord. Until next time......

The First Jan Biblical Core Course is thriving and loving the Bible more and more each day! Each day we love the Bible more and more. Yes, it's hard work, but it is worth it! The Holy Spirit is meeting with us, we are learning, growing, and finding spiritual grounding. The Word has really been a light unto our path and a light to our feet. Often I hear students going, "Huh, I never knew that before", or "Wow, that's so cool, God just revealed to me....." and they go on and on about what has just been revealed.

I am so grateful for these students, they have an amazing ability to encourage one another and love on each other. The cities of the world better watch out because 9 people are going to explode from this classroom, celebrating the God they know and wanting to give away the revelations that they have received. Are you ready for it???!!!

Life on a Surfers DTS

What IS it like?I'm sure you wonder what is the difference between a Surfers DTS and any other DTS. Here in Perth the ciriculum isn't any different. We all have a different line up of speakers with a few overlaps here and there but if you are a Surfer... doing a Surfers dts is all that much more exciting.
Lets take a closer look at the variety in any two week space of time on the school.
WEEK 5: Your settling in, getting past...way past the i dont know you phase. Finding out that if you dont lay it all down this week for God you are relying to much on yourself. Lordship week. What is more important to you depth and intimacy with Jesus or playing video games for a few hours 7 nights of the week. Does Jesus consume you or anything else in your life occupy that time more.
By now you have had two days of teaching, you're waking up thursday morning for the second surf this week realizing as I do that it's easier to get up and surf then spend time with God. Hummm??? A chalenging reality must be faced come tommorrow, Friday, when, Rod Lobaugh the speaker isn't just challenging you but everybody to lay down every little thing in you're life that's has or is getting in the way. You get up Friday morning with the only the slightest desire to be on time for morning exercise and family chores. After a bit of food, some worship time, and prayer you face it... It's either now or never.as you keep yourself from thinking about the surf trip on the weekend, God is saying to you in you it's worth it but you hadn't quite brought yourself to believe it.

A powerful encounter with God is a major part of what you can expect to encounter on the Surfers DTS.
Stay tuned for what God can give back to you as you give it all up for Him.

The Calm After the Storm

With the Celebrations over, everything else is small fry.Media muscle was flexed in the weeks leading up to YWAM Perth's Celebration week, and what a gun show it was. The ministry pulled off incredible feats of unity, creativity and diligence to achieve all that was laid on our plate. Every aspect of the wide world of media was required to pull off the vision for the Celebrations, and for a seemingly random collection of team members it turns out that God knows what he's doing.

Over in Video we went digging for archival images and revived long forsaken puppets for two special visual presentations. Not too far away, our resident 3D visual modeler laboured over a 2000 frame 3D fly-through video. It covered over 64 000m2 of the precinct around our campus and inspired us to look to the future expansion of our base. Not too shabby.

An entire wall was plastered with designs and re-designs of the Celebration's unique logo which we then multiplied on commemorative T-shirts and water bottles - hundreds of times. Simultaneously, Print was compiling event programs and a special edition of "The Westcoast" to keep our international supporters in the loop. No small feat for a publication with a readership of over 15,000 people.

With an auditorium soon to be overflowing with YWAMers and local guests, media needed to get connected. Technical minds linked up five additional projector screens in remote overflow areas and overcame the logistical challenges of digitally connecting three cameras, PowerPoint and DVD presentations AND the audio desk to capture every session, speaker and song of the week. 200 metres of cables were laid and many, many days of planning were put in. It all transitioned smoothly with six days of footage being collected and edited into a comprehensive DVD presentation for posterity and further distribution.

The week of the Celebrations itself demonstrated the unity of our team as faithful cameramen, digital switchers, merchandise sellers and footage runners put in extra time to ensure the smooth running of all that we had prepared. The week amazingly went without hitch or hindrance.

The media's effort was just one ministry's input into making the week the all out celebration it deserved to be. And though tired and challenged we are excited by what God achieved through the motley crew that is the media ministry. We proved that no mountain is insurmountable with God - although we might be taking a short sabbatical before donning the climbing boots again.

The incredibleness and faithfulness of GodLast Friday, Trudy and I went to the salvation army to do some art with the ladies there... beforehand Trudy and I had prayed for some specific things such as: that the ladies would come (the week before they had to cancel due to appts...), that God would bring peace from chaos, that we'd be able to connect with and minister to the ladies, ... and so on...

In the art time friday we had three ladies all really excited to do some art... some had hardly ever drawn... and overall they were really excited... we served them coffee and tea and made some simple scribble drawings together... and after we'd started to draw... the stories started to come out. Some of the stories were quite heavy and recent... not only did they share and embrace us, but they let us pray with them and showed great anticipation for the next time we come.

This is definitely my highlight from my time of ministering so far with Art Refuge... this is what it is all about... bringing healing... and truth to those who need it... sometimes it just takes a little ground breaking first. God was so faithful to us... and there isn't a prayer I remember from that day that He didn't answer:). and these are our scribble drawings:).

I LOVE CAMP!

YP 2010 hits the Aussie nature...We are 6 weeks down in Lecture Phase of the YP 2010. Last week we had teaching on Fear of the Lord - getting a right perspective of God, loving righteousness, hating sin ... getting truth in our communication, thought life, obedience ..

Then it was into the buses and driving down south a few hours for our weekend camping trip. We set up camp - tents, tarps, hammocks, sleeping on the Aussie dirt, got some dinner into us and set off to explore. Saturday was spent on the water - canoeing, rope swing, epic swings, mini - Olympics, canoe gladiator ... plus living off the BBQ grill and some good old capture the flag at night. It was such a good time together as a school, getting to know each other better, enjoying the great outdoors.

This week we are into teaching on Lordship / Submission and Authority with John Bills. God is really speaking to us about the way we view authority in our life, especially how that influences the way we view God as an authority. Is He completely trustworthy? Looking at some of the mindsets that we can influence the way we view and relate to God.

Coming up is the run down to Outreach. Its time to look at finances, tickets, visas, passports.... its going to be busy but we are stoked for what God is starting to stir in us for whats ahead. Our YP this year is going to Mexico City for our outreach... nearly 60 people split into teams throughout the city....

if you are interested in YP 2011 then it is not too early to enquire! Just get in touch with us here and we will connect you with all the information that you need to apply. Outreach for next year is not set yet but we generally send teams into nations stretching from South Africa to Australia!! That takes in all of Africa, the Middle East and Asia....

Unity, bars and writing music
God really brought us together on our outreach. We had many different personalities but I felt through the music, God showed us how to love and serve each other and by the end we were so unified!

One time, we played in this bar in Jakarta, Indonesia and afterwards there was another performer so we stayed around and danced for a while. The owner said that the atmosphere had never been so free and exciting. God opens doors with music because it's the language of the world!

One cool thing I learnt is how to songs write with other people. Before I thought I couldn't write music with people because every time I tried it never worked properly and I felt all the pressure was on me. Now I feel more confident to just sit with people and chill and not feel pressure.

God's incredible!

The Christian Magna Carta

What's the link to FCDThe Christian Magna Carta looks at the rights that everyone on earth is entitled to.

It includes them having the opportunity to HEAR THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST, without which they do not have the lifeline to the source of all life, knowledge, truth and wealth.

In order for them to really know God in depth, to know His ways and how to apply them to bring transformation to their unique community, they need access to the BIBLE IN THEIR VERY OWN LANGUAGE.

To grow in their understanding of God so that transformation can be applied, they need to meet together with other local believers in an appropriate setting; that is, they need a CLOSE-BY CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP.

In order for the next generation to be discipled in a Biblical worldview and to bring transformation to all areas of society, they need CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AVAILABLE.

Understandably, everyone needs their BASIC NECESSITIES FOR LIFE MET, I.E. FOOD, WATER, CLOTHING, SHELTER AND HEALTH CARE.

Lastly, they need the opportunity to LEAD A PRODUCTIVE LIFE OF FULFILMENT; SPIRITUALLY, MENTALLY, SOCIALLY, EMOTIONALLY, AND PHYSICALLY. These are the very areas that the FCD looks at. We call this a holistic approach to development.

The Foundations in Community Development school focuses on a community's worldview and its holistic development. It strives to help a community to rise up and to grow in all areas of life. This occurs as God puts his finger on particular areas and the community obey, using the resources He has already entrusted them with.

If you are keen to take action to fulfil the goals of the Christian Magna Carta, to bring transformation to whole communities, then the FCD school could be for you.
Serving the nations through healthcare!One.. Two.. Three.. Four.. Five.. Six.. Seven.. Eight.. Nine.. Ten.. Eleven.. Twelve.. Thirteen.. Fourteen... one child just died from a diarrhoea-related illness. Did you know that it's not the diarrhoea that kills them? It's the dehydration. If mothers knew this, and knew what to do in this kind of situation, there's a higher chance that their precious son or daughter would not be dead. Do you know what else? YOU can teach mothers how to make a simple solution out of salt, sugar and water. This can help save their child from suffering of dehydration and potentially dying. It's so simple.

God put this scripture on my heart and I have been meditating on it all week. I want to share it with you. In Exodus 3 the Lord sends Moses to Pharaoh to bring the Israelites out of Egypt, because the Lord has seen his people in misery and is "concerned about their suffering." Moses said to God, "WHO AM I to bring the Israelites out of Egypt?" But God said to Moses, "I will be with you!"

What do you think goes on in the heart of God when He sees his children dying from preventable diseases, suffering from malnutrition... There is something about God I love. He is the same today as He was thousands of years ago when He told Moses to go bring the Israelites out of Egypt. His heart still aches for the suffering and He still wants to use US even when we think.. "Who am I to do that?" The truth is that even though we may feel inadequate or under skilled, God still uses us and He is still with us!

Come and be a part of the Introduction to Primary Healthcare School in Perth! It starts January 3, 2010. It's a life changing opportunity to allow God to do heaps in and through your life and to teach you to serve the nations using healthcare!
Australians and New Zealanders to Europe

Renewed sense of call to EuropeCalling all Aussies and Kiwis!!!

My name is Kate (from Australia) and my name is Ellen (from NZ) and we will be a part of the Europe focus Discipleship Training School (DTS) that is running this April here at YWAM Perth.

I (Kate) have had a heart for Europe for a long time - particularly the two cities of Paris and London - now is the time that God is calling me to go. This Europe focus DTS will be a part of launching a YWAM work in Biarritz, France.

We believe that God has given both Australians and New Zealanders a lot of hope. You may not feel like you have much hope to give, but you do because you know God. Our nations prosper today because of the biblical foundations NZ and Australia were built on. You have hope to bring to the continent of Europe - God is their hope, and He wants to use you to share it with them.

Australia and New Zealand joined forces in WW1 to go fight in a continent that was so far away for their freedom. God is calling Australians and New Zealanders to sow into Europe once again. God is calling you as the next generation of Aussies and Kiwi's to fight for God's hope to come to this incredible continent, Europe. Will you come and join us in seeing God's truth come to this continent? If your answer is yes, would you consider coming and doing the Europe focus Discipleship Training School(DTS) in April 2010. I believe that God has given Australians and New Zealanders an amazing inheritance in Europe. Don't miss out on the destiny that God has for you and don't let Europe miss out on knowing our wonderful God, who longs to bring hope to their lives.

We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully working with you...

Kate and Ellen

Ps. Here a some interesting facts we found about the history of ANZACS and Europe, what God is up to in our lands and the number of us who are already travelling:

"During the First World War over 124,000 New Zealanders, almost 10 per cent of the population, joined the army. We were reminded of the revival in Wales in 1904 that shook the world at that time with the fear of the Lord coming in such intensity that swept into every area of society. A prophetic word came that there would be a noticeable new zeal, boldness & authority resting on the young people going out that would be contagious & bring great encouragement to others in parts of the world." - David Cole, YWAM international leader and Tauranga House of Prayer oversight

" We have a ship ministry called "Marine Reach". In 2010 we are targeting 100,000 young people with a message of hope, destiny, and life in our nation. Perhaps God is stirring you to become a part of this great wave." - Stephen Aherne, YWAM Australia National director.

"...The number of Australians travelling overseas is running at nearly six million a year. That's nearly 30 per cent of the population. To put it another way, everyone in Australia on average is leaving the country on average about once every three years. The number of Australians heading overseas each year has almost doubled in the past decade...."
FCD Outreach 09

Outreach to Karaeta, PNG - 2009The village of Karaeta in PNG was the location of the 2009 FCD outreach. They are a highly evangelised community, yet still living in poverty. How can this be? That's where Biblical community development comes into the picture. The problem is not merely a physical problem, nor a spiritual problem, but rather one involving the physical, spiritual, social and education. It needs to be dealt with holistically. It needs to hit their worldview and to address their welfare mentality.

The outreach was only short, a mere 9 weeks, not really enough time to see full scale transformation. We were able to run a transformation seminar where we taught the people about God's intensions; that God has given them all they need to achieve what God has for them. They began to see the difference between real needs and felt needs and to get God's perspective on it. They mapped out their village and began to get God's heart for their community and to pray in faith for God to bring change. We saw changes in key leaders which we believe will lead to a community wide transformation.

Biblical development is critical to see communities like this one in Papua New Guinea transformed into all God has for them.

Off to Mexico City!

Trekkin across the ocean. We have just left for Mexico City! After a big fight for our finances, we are all going to this far away city...the expectation has been building, and we're ready for action. Our expectations are simply to see people met with the power of God in whatever state they are in. To inspire the church to reach their city, bring equipping in the heart of God toward the lost, build relationships, the options are endless! Above all, our desire is to represent Jesus in such an irresistible way that people can't help but fall in love with Him! In our experience, when we truly encounter this Living God, we see how worthy and beautiful he is, there is no other appropriate response but to serve Him with everything we've got. And that is what we've set out to do...

Songs are being written, hearts are being changed...Believe it or not, the SOMM is almost halfway through the lecture phase, just a little over 6 weeks until Mexico City! As outreach approaches, the pace is beginning to pick up and the excitement is building. The band is busy practicing and tweaking cover songs, as well as writing original material and looking at the potential of each new tune! The combinations of chords, melody, lyrics, and rhythm truly are endless. I can't wait to see how the music comes together!

The students & staff have been incredibly challenged by speakers Steve Warren and Benny Prasad to run after heart purity and excellence. We'll be hearing from SOMM founder Karen Lafferty this week on spiritual warfare, another key to effective music ministry. And of course, our God is higly relational, so we've also had some opportunities for fun and fellowship. Whether washing cars, playing cards, songwriting, or hanging out at the port (& chocolate factory!) in Fremantle, our heart is to do it all for Jesus! Stay tuned to see all that unfolds...

YPDTS - WEEK 5 ALREADY!!

One month into it...That's right... we have already completed 4 weeks on the 2010 YPDTS! It has been incredible....

Quick update on the last couple of weeks - we had teaching on Repentance and Forgiveness with Caleb Brownhill in Week 3 and then we had a huge YWAM Celebrations Week in Week 4. Repentance and Forgiveness week involves a lot of opportunity to be able to respond to the grace and forgiveness of God in our lives.. and to really encounter freedom in our lives. We had a couple days of teaching and then a practical day where we got to apply the truth in our lives. This day brought us together as a school as we were able to openly share our lives with God and people.. some people for the first time! God really moves in this times... breaking guilt and shame, setting us free... and speaking love and truth into our lives!!! Finishing off with a time of worship... responding to the goodness of God in our lives. I love this week - its intense, its confronting - it transforms lives!!!

Last week we had a huge 50th YWAM / 25th YWAM YWAM Perth Celebrations. Loren and Darlene Cunningham, the founders of YWAM, were with us for a few days sharing words on where YWAM has come from and where we are headed... Lots of history, stories, fun times.... Plus it was Australia day in the middle of it all - which means we all head down the river for a huge fireworks display with several hundred thousand other crew from Perth!! This photo is some of the YP down in the midst of the Aussie action...

Yesterday we had a Golf Fundraiser for the YWAM Perth Property fund... God has been leading us to get established in our community so as a base we are trusting for a lot of finances in the next year! As a base we raised around $20 000 through this. A group of the YP Staff came equal 1st!!!! Landry, Scott, Gill and Q..... the first 3 contributed to the scoreline!

Now we are into Week 5 of the school - Intercession and Worship with Chris Adams sharing from the base.....

More to come.

Get your Applications in for next year!!! info@ywamperth.org.au

Living a Musicians Life

...With God at the centre my friends...Greetings from YWAM Perth! Name is Seb, I'm from Canada and I love playing bass!! I did the regular DTS, it was an amazing experience that I wouldn't trade for anything. I came here unaware of how the bible and the teachings in it were so important to daily life. I'm not just talking about the mission field but life at home, in business, in music or anywhere. Since I've been here I've learnt many biblical principles and have applied it to my daily life. I have also made some great friends!

If I were to redo my DTS, I would definitely do the Music DTS! Just imagine meeting musicians from all around the world and writing songs together! I encourage you, take this time and give it to God. You will grow so much and will love it!

God bless, Seb

....

I counldn't have said it better myself! It's so exciting to see what happens when people get together and consistantly look to God as their answer. Come to Music DTS and see more of what God's perspective on your life is and how you can apply that passion to your life in music!

Adam

now is a great time to consider the MediaReach DTS 2010!God wants to use you! He's got a plan for your life. He wants to use you to change communities, nations, situations, spheres... lives. But maybe you don't feel like a nation-changing, truth-showing, history maker. Don't let that limit you! God's dreams are big and they include a special place for you.

Taking six months to grow in your relationship with God--grow in hearing his voice, getting his perspective about what you're passionate about, and reaching out to people--can't be wasted time.

Maybe you've always thought about doing something like a Discipleship Training School, well why wait any longer? There's still time to join us for April's MediaReach DTS 2010!

If you want to know God more and make him known and if you're passionate about any area of media and creative communication--photography, video, web, journalism, design, IT... whatever--consider doing a MediaReach DTS!

You'll get to discover more of who God truly is through teaching and life application, through community and one-on-one discipleship, through worship and prayer, through reaching and serving. It's Biblical and experiential, practical and transformational.

After three months of lecture phase in Perth, we'll head to Mexico City to be a part of the megacities focus there. With megacities, YWAM partners with the local Body of Christ in a large city to be a catalyst for transformation in every sphere of society. And we get to be a part of it! In our similar focus on Cape Town last year, the MediaReach DTS outreach teams were a part of not only reaching out to the city themselves, but documenting what God was doing and communicating stories of transformation with media tools. Things are really stirring in Mexico City and there's a place for you in what God is doing!

For more info, email us at info@ywamperth.org.au.

Gotta know Jesus MoreI am at home in San Diego right now. Looking forward to getting back to Perth and especially excited about what God has in store for the 2010 Surfers DTS. I am realizing the simplicty of being a Christian again. I/we need to know Jesus more, to trust Him more, to love Him more, to surrender to Him more. This is what I trust we will all encounter more together in the upcoming school. No matter how long any one of us has been following Jesus we need to know Him more.
As my anticipation for the school is growing my anticipation to meet with God increases. It's going to be an action packed adventure and it's only a few months away. Stoked!
San Diego waves are good but encountering God by getting out in the Nations is excites me.
ASIA IMPACT IS...

God Has Done Great Things2009 has been a great year and God has done great things in and through us! We saw three people come into the Kingdom of God, four of our brothers and sisters be water baptised, and two babies dedicated to the Lord.
We also held Alpha Courses in our home for 12 people, this was a great time of fellowship and sharing. We've also been doing home visits, these times have been very enjoying. We've been able to listen, share the word of God, pray, and meet different needs for these familes and individuals. Home is the place that God can perform many miracles. Glory be to our God.
This past year we were also able to take our first mission trip as Asia Impact. We took a team back to Thailand in June-July, God's favor was on our team everywhere we went.
After our missions trip the leader of Asia Impact felt God lay on our hearts to support Pastor Vitaya and his family in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Pastor Vitaya is involved in church planting and uniting pastors in their work in Laos, Burma, and China. We gladly support him financially, and in prayer. We look forward to sending teams to work with him in the future. If you feel God laying on your heart to be a part of working or supporting Pastor Vitaya we would love to give you more information.
We are also involved in supporting an Orphans home - we aren't financially able to support them at the moment, but we carry them on our hearts in prayer and are proud to be a bridge of blessing to them as one of our families in the community are committed to helping them. We would also love to hear from you if you would like to be involved in helping this orphans home.
Mr. Tipp is the first missionary that we have been able to send out as a result of Asia Impact. We commissioned him on the 29th November 2009 to go do his DTS in Chiang Rai, Thailand. After his DTS he plans to join a YWAM team in Chiang Rai to work with university students. Mr. Tipp will also help coordinator missions trips for Asia Impact. Please keep praying for him.
Church is all about God's Kingdom coming to earth. We would like to thank all of you who have stood with us over the past year. We are grateful for your support and prayers.

Jumping with excitement for outreach!

Sports DTS 2009 finished lecture phase and is now starting outreach! We are stoked.I know this would be cliche, but I can't believe we are starting outreach already. Time always flies by when you are having fun. And during these past 12 weeks, we did have fun.

We have done so many things...soccer, basketball, indoor beach volleyball, beach volleyball, kayaking, sand dunes, golf, beach, Midnight basketball, rugby...and of course we saw God move in our own lives and in the lives of others. Here is a little summary put together from a student of lecture. Enjoy!! Check out the testimonies and the gallery as well!

Lecture Phase of Sports DTS has been all about practicing and training for the game. This has been the time that we have been preparing to do God's work and make Him known in the nations. It has been about learning what it means to go all in for God and not being afraid to take the ball and charge the down the field. We have learned not only how to train our bodies but how to train our minds, we have learned how to build physical muscle as well as spiritual muscle and we have had fun doing it. Through things like morning workouts, volunteering at midnight basketball, volleyball tournaments, Tuesday night sports leagues, Thursday night evangelism, and movie nights, God has taken 14 individuals with all different talents and all different backgrounds and created one incredible team on fire for Him.

As a school we have seen God continue to change lives and reveal Himself and just how powerful He is. Regardless of weather the topic of the week was Father Heart of God, Repentance/Forgiveness, Worship/Intercession, Missions, Hearing God's Voice or Fear of the Lord the underlying theme has been knowing God. The Lord has shown up and worked in each of us in unique ways in order to reveal more and more of His character and His heart. We also got to see God's provision and blessing during a time when we had to all come together and trust God for the money for Outreach. This was a time where God was really able to stretch and grow our faith and in the end really bring new revelation of His love and grace. Lecture Phase of Sports DTS has been unbelievable. Through lectures, fellowship, playing sports and just hanging out God has been renewing our minds, reforming our actions and transforming our emotions.

key people, key places, key timesJuly DTS 2009; 29 students, 6 staff, 2 families, 5 kids, 12 nations, 9 weeks lectures in Perth, 10/11 weeks otureach in SA and 3/4 weeks in Asia :) What an adventure!

The word from God for the school came from Psalm 84:10. God was speaking that this school would be filled w/ people who desire to know Him, pursue Him and as they encounter Him, they would capture this heart that says, "I'd rather be w/ Jesus doing what He has called me to do, than be anywhere else."

This was first reflected in week 1 of the school as our speaker had each person stand in front of the map, introduce themselves and share expectations/hope for the school. Consistently shared was the desire to know God and know the plans He has for our lives. I watched this beautifully unfold on the July DTS 2009...

The Lord spoke clearly as well, his desire for us to meet Him in the quiet place and also in the midst of serving people. I also watched JDTS09 diligently seek and encounter Jesus and testify that our lives and those we have encountered in the nations are forever changed. You can read some amazing stories from the JDTS crew under "testimonies".

I have been so blessed to share this past season of life with the JDTS crew...the exciting part is that as they go out, to all the different spheres of society and nations God has called them to...all over the world...they will continue to carry the dreams of God and God is preparing the way for the next season, and new adventures with Him on the JDTS 2010!

I'd love to have you join me for it!
Fun and games are making an impact!Last week we held a 3 day club for kids in Mirrabooka suburb. We had face painting, balloon animals, sports, snacks and puppet shows. It was a great week and in the end we had over 50 children come to the park for the club. It was an amazing way into the community and gave us the opportunity meet many refugee families living there. The kids kept asking us to come back the next week and then to keep coming after school starts. When our bus pulled up to the park on the second day, some kids were there waiting and ran out to meet us.
We had a lot of really good conversations with children and parents of the children. We met a few women through this club that we will be visiting to help with English in the coming weeks. It was a really great time and God is opening doors for us in evangelism and ministry!
