GYO: Day of Compassion Report

God has been showing His love and mercy throughout the city today
God moved in amazing ways as the youth spread out across Mexico City for their first Day of Compassion! Reaching out to 16 different regions, they went out excited and eager to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was an exciting day of being used by God, and wonderful to see the unity as the international and local youth worked together to see the Kingdom of God come to the city.

The teams hit the streets in evangelism, and saw God move as they boldly spoke about the love and truth of Jesus. Performing simple dramas to draw a crowd, the young people then testified of God's goodness in their lives and preached the gospel. The response was tremendous. There was great openness to the gospel. The locals' hearts were open, soft, and willing to hear from the youth and to engage in conversation with them. The Holy Spirit's touch was evident as many were accepting the Lord into their lives - it wasn't just a simple, "yes," but it was a deep, genuine desire to know Jesus.

Here is a testimony from today, one of God's great desire to restore and to bring life to those He loves...

Rod, from one of the Megacities teams, together with Felipe, a youth from Mexico City, met a man named Alejandro on the street, who was waiting while his wife was seeing a doctor. They struck up conversation and shared the entire gospel in detail with him while he was waiting. Alejandro was completely open and confessed he had lived only for himself since he was a boy. When Alejandro's wife arrived, they all talked together, and she was also very open to receive Jesus. Rod led them in a sinner's prayer - asking them to specifically repent of sins in their lives. They were extremely detailed in their repentance and it was clear there had been a lot of brokenness in their marriage. This couple reconciled not only with God, but with each other. Felipe is going to continue to follow up with Alejandro and his wife and make sure they receive discipleship. Later, Rod was able to talk with Felipe about some of the important things that are involved in discipling others. As Rod was praying for him, he felt a strong word that God was calling Felipe to start a home group movement- to multiply small groups. Rod encouraged him to ask God if this might be true. Felipe replied, "I don't need to ask, I already know. This is something I have wanted to do and I just did not know how. Now with this couple, I know where to start."

We are so excited with what God is doing through the combined ministry of internationals and locals like Rod and Felipe. He is not only bringing salvation, but He is also giving new and exciting dreams for the youth like Felipe, to step into their destiny as world changers in their own city!

Day 3 GYO Report

Getting ready to hit the streets of Mexico City!Day 3 of GYO is over and we are in great anticipation of what God is going to do through us as we hit the streets of the city together over the next 2 days!.

Today the focus was "Purpose and Destiny". Youth were challenged as they heard the word to seek God for His purpose and destiny for their lives. This includes the challenge to live up to the call on their lives! It is wonderful to see them worshipping Him and pressing in to know Him more, responding to the challenges being given them. Today we also looked at evangelism- the call to the great commission Jesus gave to His disciples- "Go into all the world and preach the gospel! We looked at the practicalities of this and began to prepare for our ministry together over the next 2 days.

Tomorrow the youth will be heading out in teams to 16 different locations within the city- to preach the gospel! They are excited for what God is going to do through them, both in the next few days, and the rest of their lives! We will gather again on Saturday for the final day of GYO, to hear the reports of how God has been moving, and to give Him praise for all He has done.

Here are some comments from the youth today:

Pedro from Coyoacan " I feel like God reactivated me. He invited me to dream big once again."

Arleth from Venustiano Carranza: "My mind has been opened up more. The Bible says, 'I have opened up a door before you'. God has allowed me to go through that door. On the other side is His glory."

Abraham from Azcapotzalco: "God dealt a lot with my heart, and improved my concepts of salvation, holiness and His love. I felt His Spirit here a lot. He taught me a lot about unity between brothers and He reinforced His call on my life to the nations."

Jael from Azcapotzalco: "God has shown His great love and mercy these days, He's given me signals on the road I need to follow. Some days before I had asked Him in which direction to go ...... God has blessed my life in a great way through that and will continue for the purpose He has put in my life."

Daniel "I was a guy deep in the worlds things, but then I know about Jesus. I never experienced the peace I feel in me now. Since I went to GYO here I know new people and they pray for me. Jesus used them to say to me 'I forgive you and come to me' now I don't feel sin in me I feel like Im a new person. I feel me free, and I want to say that Jesus loves me and I love him by the blessing he has done in my life. Thank you Jesus."

MY WORK EXPERIENCE

An exploration of YWAM from a unique perspective...
After a stressful few days running around Busselton, desperately searching for a work experience placement, I ran into a very good friend who is a part of YWAM Perth. She got excited when I told her I was looking for work experience and a few days later it was made official that I would be doing my work experience at YWAM Perth.

My work experience started at the end of YWAM's April quarter so a lot of people had just come back from outreaches in Mexico and the base was packed out with students, leaders and staff from all over the world. I loved meeting all these friendly new people and hearing about where they were from.

Each day I worked in a different ministry and got to experience what happens and how each of them contribute to the base. I worked in Hospitality where they make everyone feel at home, the Australian Relief and Mercy Service which goes to struggling people's homes to help out in lots of practical ways, Pathways, a minstry involved with helping refugees, the Media office, the Kitchen and a few more awesome ministries. I really loved working in each ministry and thought it was just the most amazing fun being able to help out, to get to know people and to serve Jesus.

During my stay I learnt a lot about what happens with YWAM and the different things people are involved in such as all the different Discipleship Training Schools. After hearing stories about people who have been on outreach to different countries or the amazing time they had, I started to think about doing a DTS when I finish school. I learnt about the different doors that YWAM opens for people that will take them on different journeys to serve God and see the world.

I found that sometimes the things I did were a bit overwhelming, but this was what I had wanted; to step out of my comfort zone and try new things and to really strive to have a new experience and I think I really have had an amazing experience while spending two weeks here at YWAM Perth.

Report From End of Day 2

GYO Has Kicked Into Full Gear !Day 2 of the GYO and the youth are truly embracing the worship times - giving all the glory to God and praising from deep within their hearts. They are being deeply moved and falling on their faces before the Lord in worship to Him. With the floor shaking and their voices singing out, we had a difficult time closing the evening session! Not wanting to go home, the young people were passionate as they continued worshipping and repeating, "Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole! Jesus, Jesus!!"

Holiness has been a key topic on this the second day of GYO. The speakers focused on the holiness of God and our need of repentance. It has been a powerful message with a profound, deep and whole hearted response from the youth. The Holy Spirit was stirring the young people as many fell to the floor repenting and coming before the Lord with their hearts open and exposed. They are eager to live pure lives committed to Christ.

These are a few testimonies from the local youth and how God was moving in their own lives today...

Torres, 14: "God told me to be prepared because huge things are coming. Maybe some of us will have fallen down, but God will be there to help us in the spiritual and physical."

Monica, 16: "God is touching my life very deeply, one of the Megacities girls prayed for me and God gave me a vision through her. I have been a Christian for a long time, apart from the last 2 months, when I have been apart from God. The vision was a fish trying to breathe out of the water. Then I understood that God wanted to be with me because I was created to have relationship with Him. Since the revelation, God has been showing me my purpose, as a missionary!"

After one of the worship sessions, a young girl named Andrea shared that God was speaking to her about Paul and Silas and how as they worshiped the prison doors shook. She felt that as we worshiped together today, the prison doors were shaking and opened and we were released!

God is doing huge things through the intense worship times and profound teaching sessions this week. Days of Compassion begin on Thursday and we know God will continue to work through the young people as they reach out throughout the regions of their city !

GYO Report: Day 1

Young people meeting with God as GYO kicks of in Mexico CityLocal and international youth gathered together in Mexico City today for Day 1 of the Global Youth Outreach - five days of going deeper with God and reaching the city with His love! With an explosion of excitement, GYO opened with a time of praise and worship as the youth were crying out to God with a desire to know Him more.

The focus of this first day was that God is worthy - worthy of our time, our talents, our love, and most importantly, our life. The youth were inspired and encouraged as God's truth penetrated their hearts. They learned that they can have new life, a fresh start in Him, and were challenged to not let their past dictate their future - an incredible future that God has planned for them. Many committed to starting that life fresh with Christ, desiring to have a deeper relationship with Him.

There was such a tenderness among the youth as the Holy Spirit moved throughout the sessions. As they heard how God's heart is grieved when His children turn away from Him, they began to draw close and open their hearts to His. One young girl expressed the response of the young people as she cried out "Sorry, God, for hurting your heart!"

Here are some responses from a couple of young people who attended today:
Cristofer, 13, said, "God wants me to seek Him and I want to have more of Him."
Berenice, 16, was moved as she shared, "God put a call to me, for more of his presence. He is great, and God spoke to me that He will raise this generation for evangelism. He has opened my mind and my thinking is different. I thought this kind of conference couldn't change me in just one day, but the messages touched deep in my heart and they will change my life."

Praise God ! He is moving and speaking to the hearts of the youth at GYO - changing their hearts and transforming their lives. Tomorrow our focus will be on knowing God and His holiness: we are expectant for more as we continue to seek Him together!

SOW in Mexico

the school of worship is on outreach in mexico city. check out what they're doing...The School of Worship left for Mexico City at the end of June and have been having a great time in the city. Here's a report from Moncica on the team:

BUENOS DIAS FROM MEXICO CITY!! Our team is located in an area of Mexico City called Los Reyes La Paz, which is on the far southeast edge of the city, and actually more of a rural area. We are staying all together in a church, and the pastor and his family have their home here as well. Hospitality is one of the redemptive gifts of Mexican culture, and we have definately been experiencing that in abundance!!

During our first week, we read the whole Bible aloud in public places around our region. We read around the clock for 72 hours, so the whole Bible and all its truth has been proclaimed over Los Reyes La Paz. The public proclamation of the word shifts the spiritual realm and brings a greater softness in the area to the gospel, and during our first time out doing street evangelism, we did indeed see two people give their lives to Jesus!!

Also I've put up some new testimonies here, so check them out!

Update from my View

update on ministry trip and progress from Jason Stewart's point of viewMinistry has been amazing. After a ministry wide trip, all 10 of us, to Singapore and seeing a thriving ministry there we are excited for the changes we have prayed about and are seeking to implement so that we can see the Spirit of God transform these underprivileged kids. In Singapore the ministry we saw made the people God had entrusted them to disciple their highest goal in life, an avenue to love people as God loves them. Their greatest strength as a body of 1600 was that the individual was truly and undeniable NOT lost in the mass. Every person was directly and individually discipled when they came to Christ and became a part of the Church of God. In the 5 days we were there and the 5 services we went to we saw child and teenager in masses crying out to God and living in a community as a way of life not just what was cool. It is certainly not cool to be a Christian to these kids, 3 out of 4 of them have parents who strongly disagree with their choice. The average age of the 1600 was 21 and they met all week long just to be together in study and in play. True community based on the individual!
It is great to be back doing the work that God has given to me to do. This week was amazing. I spoke on how God heals us and I asked the kids to pray for the ones of us that were sick, including myself. The kids really had faith that the power of Jesus Christ can heal. When I asked what could have happened when the disciples prayed for the sick they said that because of the power of Jesus they could be healed. Most of these kids have only heard about Jesus the past 4 months! It was beautiful to see kids pray for each other and have the faith that they would get better. It is great to give these children life skills and knowledge but there is nothing better then helping them to position them self in a way that they can know whom God is in their spirit as well as their mind.
We continue to see so much improvement in these children and we are excited to see how they live out what they are learning.

Art Shop Team Returns From Kalgoorlie

For two weeks creativity reigned supreme in Western Australia's golden mining towns of Coolgardie and Kurrawang. Eight fit YWAMers arrived, video camera and paintbrushes in hand, to tell stories and encourage students at two Christian Aboriginal Parent Directed Schools. Ten days, 2 short-films, countless drawings and one giant mural later, it's easy to see what God was up to.

The team was able to impart biblical truth and connect one-on-one through art times, developing friendships and discipling the youth. They were also able to produce a short film staring the students for a national film competition!

Art is an effective tools in processing experiences and communicating God's truth in a safer, more personal way. This partnered with door-to-door evangelism and bible distribution meant the whole community was served in an amazingly short window of time.

The team hopes to return later in the year to follow up the work God has begun and to see their friends again.

Praise God for His creativity!!!

The Taxi Drivers

People in the city are responding to the truth of Jesus and helping their friends to do the same...God was moving throughout the region of La Paz as the School of Worship outreach team was evangelizing and publicly proclaiming His truth and love. Hearts were open and eager as the team spoke with several locals in the area.

Yohan, Adrian, and Nathalie had the opportunity to pray with Jose, a taxi driver, to receive the forgiveness and everlasting life Jesus freely offered to him. Nathalie and Adrian then turned to another taxi driver who had been watching and listening to them. Overhearing the students sharing the love of Jesus Christ with Jose, Efrain realized something was missing in his heart. Not having a translator with them, Nathalie and Adrian put their trust in the Lord - and in their Spanish dictionary. Efrain shared his own story with them and finished by saying, "But now my heart is open, I want Jesus to come and fill it. I want to accept Him as my Lord and Saviour." Nathalie and Adrian explained to Efrain his need to repent and to accept full forgiveness and salvation from Jesus and then his heart would be filled. His emptiness and longing would be filled up and overflowing with the love and grace of God.

Just then, Jose, the taxi driver, who had just given his life to the Lord, came to us and shared the transformation he had already experienced in knowing Christ Jesus. Efrain responded and said, "I want the same." Jose did not hesitate and through prayer, led his friend to the Lord. Instantly, they could see a change in Efrain - his smile was radiant and he desired for his wife to know Jesus, as well.

As God is using teams to transform individual's lives in Mexico City, He is also using those transformed to touch others throughout their communities. They have been changed to bring change - the love of Jesus Christ.

Two students' experiences...

An interview with Tracey and Jonathan from Sports DTS '09Why did you do a Sports DTS in Perth?
Tracey:I did a Sports DTS because I wanted to build a solid foundation in my relationship with Jesus before going out into the world. I felt that this is where the Lord wanted me to be after high school.

Jonathan:Well i like sports, i have my whole life, and i thought it would be cool to reach people through that. Also, the reason i did it in Perth was because i heard good things about there from Luke and David Baker.

What was your favourit week of lectures?
Tracey: My favorite week of Lectures was Repentance and Forgiveness week. The entire week was horrible at first because I was anticipating sharing all of my sins with people that I had just met. It was like waiting for the axe to fall. I was terrified but after I brought my sins to the light, I felt so free and I had nothing holding me down.

Jonathan: It's tough to pick one... maybe Lordship week with Ari, or Evangelism week with Steve Ahearn.

What was a highlight of outreach?
Tracey: When in Mexico, God convicted our group about our lack of faith and fear of bringing physical healing to the people there. Once we confessed our fears and lack of faith, HE did tremendous things through us. That day, my group saw nine people get healed and about fifteen people rededicate their lives to the Lord. It was an experience I'll never forget.

Jonathan: Probably either the detention center week, or the day at the Guadalupe with all the different churches coming out with us.

What was the craziest/funniest time during DTS?
Tracey: I think the craziest time at YWAM was when we were playing rugbee and I got tackled and broke my collar-bone. It was totally unexpected and it definately didn't feel awesome.

Jonathan: Definitely finding different ways to kill Tracey's stuffed animal. Hands down.

Short Term Missions - No Small Thing

New Jersey team experiences numerous miracles on a 7 day outreachA team from New Jersey recently spent a week of outreach with Megacities in Mexico City. Is one week too short a time for God to use you? No! This team gave all they had for 7 days and reported that their time was like experiencing the Book of Acts! As they were faithful to do the possible, God used them to do the impossible.

Here are some highlights of their time:

It started day one - being full of faith, but having no Spanish speaking ability, the team went out on the streets to do evangelism. Through translators, they spoke to ten people and five of them gave their lives to Jesus! Inspired and encouraged, their ministry continued in partnership with local churches and they would go out to different locations to do evangelism. One day, standing in the middle of a busy medical centre, they shared with several patients waiting in line, and prayed for their sicknesses. Many were healed and they were so encouraged!

While on the street outside an elementary school where mothers were picking up their children, they took the opportunity to share with them about Jesus. Through this simple obedience, many people were healed of back injuries, throat problems, skin diseases, as well as other physical illnesses. The assistant principal of the elementary school, a policeman, and thirty others received Christ that afternoon! Wow!

The team was asked to run a church service one night and again looked to God for wisdom. They relied on the Holy Spirit, since He was obviously already doing powerful things everywhere they went. During the service many people received healing. They continued to see God move in miraculous healings and a number of drug and alcohol addicts came forward for prayer, repenting of their sin and asking Jesus for salvation!

God is powerfully using short-term teams like this all over Mexico City! This is just one example of how God is using those who are willing to step out of their comfort zone and be used by Him.

God Makes a Way

God is moving in and through local MexicansEquipped and excited to tell others about God, Adrian and his outreach team from the School of Worship went to a square near Los Reyes Metro Train Station. Trying to share the love and truth about God was definitely a challenge - being in a huge city surrounded by strangers and unable to speak the language posed a few problems. Discouraged, the team decided to pray and ask God for strategies and for Him to make a way where it seemed like there was none.

Prayer is so powerful and God never fails to show up ! Adrian and his team met a man named Juan who openly talked with them and shared his own story. He had been deported to Mexico from Miami where his family was still living. Holding back tears, he explained how much he missed his nine year old son and that he was doing all that he could to return to Miami. The team was able to comfort him, pray for him, and even share their own personal testimonies.

Juan remained with the team in the square and began to translate for them as they preached the gospel. As a result, 2 people gave their life to the Lord!

Just earlier that day, it seemed almost impossible for Adrian and his team to reach out to the city - but when they put their hope in God and called on His name, they were able to be used by God in amazing ways. They didn't know the city, the people, or the language, but they knew God and trusted in Him. God desires to use everyone to spread His incredible love story, they just have to be willing... are you ?

His kingdom come...

...on earth as it is in me.With more and more applications coming in, everything becomes more real...October DTS is closing in on us. Laying ahead of us are more beach visits, and camping, more sand boarding and bush adventures, more late nights and early mornings, more classes and students...all part of the process of transforming lives for the kingdom of God.

Recently with the prayer and worship times, we've been having great encounters with the living God. Knocking the clocks off the walls, and giving God a portion of the hours He deserves, He honors our "sacrifice of praise" and gifts us with His presence. The recent healings of hearts and lives are paving the way for further and greater transformations of the world around us. So we are focusing in on the Word of God and promise that has been given to us, and will settle for nothing less than what He has spoken; 500 staff and 500 students and a great light shining to the world from here in Perth.

This October, the light will be focused on Mexico City. Jesus said "the kingdom of heaven is within you." As He teaches us more and more about Himself and who it is that's living within us, we will take "the hope of glory" to the nations.

If you are interested in taking part in this, please e-mail info@ywamperth.org.au, or you can download an application from the YWAM Perth Web site!!!
