GLOBAL YOUTH OUTREACH

By Morag Paton, Megacities coordinator

Expectant for great fruit, remembering what God has done

GYO is only weeks away and as we prepare for our time together I am remembering what God has done in the past and looking forward to see what he will do this time!

The GYO is from 26 -31 July, a major youth conference featuring 3 days of intense inspiration and challenge followed by taking the all participants out for 2 days of outreach.

The Global Youth Outreach strongly focuses on holiness and destiny issues, all within the context of worship and the love of Christ. Components to the GYO include international bands, guest speakers, seminars, their practical application and the Days of Compassion led by international youth. The purpose of the GYO is to be a catalyst, igniting youth movements in cities where their young people rise to godly service and influence in their communities and beyond.

I attended my last GYO in J-City, Indonesia. My memories of this were of the Indonesian youth ecstatic with excitement, jumping for Jesus, crying out to God and times of tenderness as the Father touched those who drew close to Him.

During the break times interacting with the youth, I had the privilege of praying for a young boy by the name of Alex. He was 13 years old, had been orphaned as a young boy and taken into care by a church group who had found him on the streets. This young boy had prayed for a bible and had a vision a few months prior, that a white woman would give him one. That was me! He asked me to pray for him, he wanted to be smart and be able to read the bible. This was a catalyst to see this young boy start attending school – a dream come true for him.

Another young man named David joined me on the Day of Compassion, he was deeply challenged with the prospect of sharing the gospel with someone who didn’t know Jesus. By the end of the day he had a beaming smile on his face and declared “I love doing this, I never realized that people would be interested in listening and want to know about Jesus”. David shared he will continue to go out to do evangelism.

There are many more stories to share, and even better, many more stories to come! What will this year’s GYO hold?
