CREATING WITH THE CREATOR

By Emmy Wang

Learning to listen to God in Media.

Hello! My name is Emmy, I'm from China, and I’ve worked in the Media ministry in Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Perth since January 2012.

And I’ve learned it is a place where you co-create with the Creator of the universe!

When I first worked with media as a work duty student on my Discipleship Training School (DTS), I had just graduated from university with my degree in Mass Communication. My way of approaching a project was to research as much as I could, then come up with as many ideas as possible, develop some of them further, etc. I constantly thought about what my leaders or what the clients like. However, I missed out God in the whole process.

Here in the Media ministry, we always have "team times." It's bonding time where we talk about what we are working on, share ideas, and pray for each other. And of course there is almost always coffee.

One day during our team times, Elli, one of our graphic designers, asked us to think about what it means to work with God. I could only think about how I wanted to work for God. I am more motivated when I know it for God’s glory; and everything I do becomes more meaningful. When we shared back our answers, I realised God is more awesome than I thought. My team members pointed out that working with God is like working with the top designer of them all. Some said working with God means we can always get advice from Him, and since He knows everything. I also felt sometimes working with God means that things get done faster with less stress, because when we know what He wants us to do.

Now, the first thing I do when I start a project is to pray, and really take time to wait on God. I note down the ideas that come to my mind, and then I follow His leading in implementing each step of the design process. I learned that I don’t have to stress over my ability, because freedom comes through God’s creativity. I love working with a team of people who encourage me by their love for God. I love being able to advertise God, and to capture him working in our lives.
