CITY-WIDE IMPACT
By Amy W
Developing towards God’s intentions in Mexico City!
For the past 3 ½ months, my husband Stevie and I have been part of heading up the work on the ground in YWAM Perth’s current megacity, Mexico City. It was incredible to be a part of what God is doing in that great city. As part of the team of coordinators for megacities, we had the privilege of meeting with pastors and folks involved in ministry all over Mexico City and hearing what God’s doing in the different regions of the city, particularly as the church partners with international megacities outreach teams. The reports are so encouraging and are a testimony of how God is moving there.
Mexico City is a HUGE city (we could be traveling by public transport for up to 8 hours on any given day) that is immensely diverse socio-economically, architecturally, spiritually and culturally. It is a beautiful city with amazing people and truly fantastic food. The spiritual openness in this city is also overwhelming…statistically, at least one in four people megacities teams shared the gospel with committed their lives to the Lord. It’s exciting to see how God is bringing people to himself as the local church and international teams go out on the streets and the share the gospel. It was a great privilege to share in what God is doing in Mexico City and be an encouragement to various church leaders to disciple and mobilize their congregations to love and serve their neighbors and surrounding community.
In the role as a citywide coordinator for megacities, I felt particularly equipped because of the training I received in the FCD. Megacities is basically a very, very, very large community development project (on the level of one of the 3 largest cities on the face of the earth)! The resources I have gained though the FCD served our coordination team and the work in the city well, from meeting with pastors and ministry leaders to orienting and facilitating for international teams. Understanding the process and principles of wholistic community development and worldview issues was hugely advantageous.
The training you receive on the FCD is not only for small or rural or slum contexts, but also gives you keys for taking cities for God and reaching subcultures within society.
