MASKS AS A REFUGE
By Narelle
Using masks to reach out
At different times in our lives we all have worn a mask to help us either feel more confident or to cover our pain, or for other reasons. Recently Art Refuge spent two afternoons with a group exploring just this topic. We talked about the masks we wear and why, and then looked at the fact that none of us need to wear masks for God to not only see us, and search us out, but to love us unconditionally and infinitely. We then took time to create masks that spoke of things we try to pretent or hide in ourselves. The time spent the second afternoon, sharing about what the masks said about us, was an incredible time of sharing about ourselves with each other. We had asked God for openness, and were humbled by the level of it that we saw in people. It gave us a chance to speak to people about their pain and hopes and dreams, and pray for them.
I believe it gave people a much better feeling of understanding to one another, and a better understanding of God's amazing love for us.
