CONNECTIONS
By Narelle
Art Refuge and Faces 58 at Homeless Connect
How do you engage homeless and art together? Last Friday, 5th August, Faces 58 and Art Refuge went to do just that at the annual Homeless Connect event in Victoria Park.
Taking with us small trading card sized original art pieces with verses on the back, we went to give something special to those we came in contact with.
Admitedly many saw art and the natural fear caused them to give us a wide berth (what do you feel when you think of 'doing art'?).
But God wanted to reach these people and we soon convinced many that we wanted to bless them with a gift of art, and we prayed that God would touch them with the verses we sent with the art works. Each piece was individually produced by a number of artists on the YWAM Perth base (you know who you are, and we are thankful for your input), and sealed in plastic to make it easy to look after for those we gave them to.
It was a chance for Faces 58 and Art Refuge to connect also with those who work with the homeless, and to work in unity. Please pray with us that each verse will touch the heart, and that each small art piece will also speak to those we gave them to. . . that God will make a difference and speak His love and truth and value to these people.
