A TREE BRINGS SILENCE
By Marsha
Perth homeless see and hear message of hope
For the past couple of years Art Refuge has been reaching out to the homeless in this city. Every Saturday night the homeless gather at one of our city's churches for a meal and a night filled with some friends, games, music, art and sometimes craft activites. Sometimes we see that it can be 'rough going' but these people come... and trust is built with those who regularly serve. This particular Saturday, just after Easter, Trudy and I painted a tree - a tree that could represent the impact of the foundations and words spoken into our lives. As we painted, some came up, commented and listened to what we had to share about the painting.
Afterwards, both Trudy and I gave testimonies from our own lives and spoke of the saving grace and hope given through Jesus. As we spoke we noticed complete silence - where there was usually a lot of noise. Someone entered the room and another person from the back shushed them so that everyone could hear the message.
Seeing the impact on these people's faces as we spoke and relationships deepen as they shared with us afterward showed that the seeds we're sowing over time in this place are bringing life.
