THE DIFFERENCE

By Narelle

Time with a young man

About 18 months ago, when we began doing art on a Saturday night with the homeless, he would come grab some paper, a pencil, and a book I had on drawing manga, and retreat to a corner to work on drawings. He was about 9 then. Gradually he started sitting near me as the months went on, and we began to chat to him about God and His amazing love.

Over the months I watched the grown ups not giving him personal room - I longed to protect him, but was told by the person in charge that he had spoken to his mum and been told that she wanted her son to be tough. It's hard to know that somethings you just can't change.

Around Christmas last, we discovered that their family had finally been given a home - too far away for them to come on a Saturday night, so we prayed for him and said good bye.

Imagine my joy about a month ago, to walk in and be greeted by "Yay! I was hoping you would come!" My friend was back for a visit. I sat with he and his sister and we did a bit of each other's pictures as we talked and caught up.

Then before he left he drew me a picture of an hypnotic eyed misquito - but this is a treasure for me, because in the bottom right hand corner my small friend wrote "God loves you".

Yes, we may never know the difference we make in what seems like a small thing, but every now and then we are allowed a glimpse.
God's heart is sooooo big!
